Solenoid Magnetic Field Calculator

By solenoid we mean a closely spaced winding of turns whose length is significantly greater than the size of the diameter. When a solenoid is crossed by an electric current of a certain intensity, it generates a magnetic field.

The intensity B of the magnetic field of a solenoid composed of coils wound in air (that is, without a ferromagnetic core) can be calculated using the following formula:

where:
μ0 = 4Π x 10-7 H/m is the magnetic constant (vacuum permeability)
N is the number of turns
I is the current intensity, in Ampere
L is the solenoid length, in meter
B is expressed in Tesla (T)

Example 1

N = 500
I = 5 A
L = 10 cm
B = 0.03142 T

Example 2

N = 1000
I = 10 A
L = 15 cm
B = 0.08378 T
