I am looking for the cheapest but well-functioning way to locate a dog via GPS.
The locator must be free, i.e. without any subscriptions, etc. (excluding data and text charges).
The battery does not have to last long, approx. 1 day is enough.

I was thinking about a smartwatch for children with a GPS location, on Allegro with a shipment for just PLN 70 you can buy something like this, e.g. http://allegro.pl/bc2-smartwatch-gps-q50-locationator-dziecka-telefon-i6778928328. html? fromVariant = 6666092972

When it comes to the solution with the said smartwatch - it doesn't fully meet your assumption of no subscription fees, you need to keep your SIM card active.
In general, the solution is not cheap and functional.
It is enough to disassemble the strap (only carefully, because in this type of devices antennas are most often mounted in the straps), put it in a pocket closed with velcro at the collar and riding ...
I have a slightly different solution myself - zone collar.
It works by reminding the dog that he has moved too far away from the guide who has the transmitter - at first vibration, then annoying ultrasound, and at the very end (only if the previous ones did not work) an electric pulse.
My dog mastered the scheme of action in three days and never goes away more than 100 - 150 meters.
But this solution is also a different price shelf - 10 years ago it cost over 2,000 PLN ...

However, the zoning collar is too expensive, and if the dog doesn't get it, that it has to come back and run away, I won't trace it.

With the watch there may be a problem with mounting, so I'm thinking about something smaller, lighter and waterproof, e.g .:

Of these two, it is probably only a collar - as for the locator, with such an "accurate" description I would rather not trust this device (or maybe the seller?), The more that according to the mentioned description it does not monitor the position in real time ...
And the collar is probably the most useful by name ;)
As for my equipment - I have a house in Masuria, on the very edge of the Borecka Forest and sometimes the animals break down the fence, trying to get to what is growing on the property. If I let the dog loose, I had to be able to have some control over it in case I didn't notice the damage (the fence is over a kilometer and a half) - that's why I chose this solution and decided to train my dog.
The transmitter is small, as a rule, it lies on a sheltered shelf at the corner of the house (I pulled up additional charging power), and if we want to move somewhere further with the dog, I throw it in the saddle at the saddle and ride ...

    I did a little research and it turns out that most of the locators on our market are Chinese products sold by Polish distributors, of course with the appropriate margin, so I think I'll decide on this one: https://pl.aliexpress.com/item/2017-New- TKSTAR-mINI-Pet-GPS-Tracker-necklace-GSM-GPRS-TK909-Real-Time-Tracking-Long-STANDBY / 32793332386.html? spm = & a2g17.search0104.3.306.wlB17j ws_ab_test = searchweb0_0, searchweb201602_5_10152_10151_10065_10344_10068_10342_10343_10059_10340_10314_10341_10534_100031_10084_10604_10083_10103_10304_10307_10301_10142, searchweb201603_32, ppcSwitch_5 & algo_expid = 2d745e0e-b2d8-4938-9eec-57b6a23133b8-41 & algo_pvid = 2d745e0e-b2d8-4938-9eec-57b6a23133b8 & transAbTest = ae803_5 & priceBeautifyAB = 0

There are even locators with IP68, but unfortunately they have batteries with a much lower capacity, and this is quite important if the search was to last longer, besides, our dog does not like to go into the water so such a degree of protection is not needed.

And maybe someone had this one - https://sklep.ysznenczesina.pl/locsatory-obroze-gps-dla-zwierzat?
In general - what are the differences between these solutions?
For now, I'm just recognizing the topic, but I would like to buy something quickly.
I have invested a little in doggy, and we have some massacre with these thefts of animals in the estate.

I have no idea what the differences are, you need to do an investigation and find out what this locator is doing and compare the data on the manufacturer's website with others.

The locator is a rather poor protection against dog theft - the thief will rather take off the locator as soon as possible, unless he is not very familiar with the technology and will not be distracted that it is the locator.

That's right - so the question is, what will be effective?
On the logic - a dog dies from a public place, so the guy can not just immediately break the collar and run, because someone will notice it.
And you get the alert right away ...

Trombson - we have this collar.
Our friends found their dog three weeks ago thanks to the locator - the guy stole it from the store.
The dog was 3 blocks away. It seems to me that animals steal mainly random people and on average think about breaking the collar.
But what do I know. We bought a dog collar just in case.

This is not a big deal, so yesterday I ordered exactly this Locon locator.
If it doesn't work, I will sell it or return it sooner.
I don't know how it looks from the inside, but it seems to me that "professional" thieves do not deal with dogs from under the shops.
It's more about protecting yourself against typical idiots.

The risk of dog theft is not great, it should be more a way to reduce dog loss. Rather, he rarely stays alone anywhere. If I go for a walk, I don't go to the store. You also need to think sensibly - the collar will not save you from everything.

I agree with what you write. We already have a collar at our place, the location works the most - I can see, for example, what route the daughter is walking on.
Let's never use it to look for him, because we don't care about such attractions.
    Let him just wear it.

I bought TK909 from AliExpress, it works as it should.
