Hello, as in the topic c3 1.4 hdi. The situation is as follows: In the city, it blocked the key several times, that it was impossible to remove it, but to turn it like that. I got home and started filming and it was hard. There is no way to turn to position 1. The key is not worked. I will add that of course the steering wheel is locked. From the bottom there is this kind of a screw with an oval head (maybe cut it and try to unscrew it?) And a pin from the top. What to do where to drill?

Why not try some lock lubricant first? Since the key is not in the ignition switch, it is worth trying.

Citroen C3 1.4 HDI 2005: Locked Ignition, Key Removal & Steering Wheel Lock Issues I've tried that too. We managed to remove this screw from the bottom. The whole lock is loose and it is probably only on this pin from the top.

    Added after 35 [minutes]:

Okay, we managed to remove the entire lock without the interference of the key. It was enough to unscrew the bolt from the bottom (I did it with a sharp chisel and a hammer), then from the top the bolt was pressed in as much as possible, then with a piece of the section into which it entered. All lock already ordered. Poor PLN 500 ? I leave the topic. It will be useful to some thief

It is a pity that the insert itself could not be replaced: - /

A good bet doesn't mean cheap. Still to be repaired, the locking mechanism including the steering lock, which broke when removing

    Welcome!
I am begging you, help me! I have exactly the same in my c3. I was able to remove the ignition switch, but I don't know how to get the cables out of it. I pried open the white plastic cover which has 2 black pins, but nothing will budge. I don't want to break: / I don't see how to get it anywhere on the net. Damn me right away. Help please!

    Greetings!

Gentlemen, help ... The car is standing, the ignition cannot be moved, in my opinion this steering lock holds and it is impossible to turn the key - can it be disconnected somehow? Is the only salvation a new ignition? :/

The lock does not hold, the ignition switch is removed after turning the key to the first position, it cannot be turned, you have to combine with pressing the pin on the top of the tube in which the ignition switch sits

Is there an easiest way to start repairing this ignition? It will not work without breaking the old one off?

Hello, does anyone have a diagram of these cables in this ignition switch? Which ones should I connect so that it starts without the ignition? I have five cables and two harnesses, one goes to the fuse box and the other is plugged into the cube under the steering wheel. I want to start it with a lever switch (which will turn on the ignition) and additionally with a starter (something like in a motorcycle). Thanks in advance if anyone is interested in the topic

FAQ

TL;DR: Citroën C3 1.4 HDi ignition barrels can seize; a new lock is about PLN 500; "We managed to remove the entire lock without the interference of the key." Press the top pin, release the lower shear bolt, then repair or replace. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]

Why it matters: If your C3 key won’t turn or come out, this FAQ gives fast, safe fixes and repair options for owners.

Quick Facts

Why is my Citroën C3 key stuck and the ignition won’t turn to Position 1?

Those symptoms match a seizing ignition lock barrel and a locked steering pawl. The barrel binding prevents reaching Position 1. The steering lock then holds the wheel and adds torque on the cylinder. That combination makes removal and turning difficult. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434435]

Will lock lubricant help, and what should I try first?

Yes, try a lock-specific lubricant first. Insert the straw, apply a short burst, then work the key gently. Turn the steering wheel left and right to relieve column torque. Avoid over-spraying and wipe excess. If the key still will not reach Position 1, proceed to mechanical removal. [Elektroda, gieniapierda, post #17434501]

How do I remove the ignition barrel if the key won’t turn to Position 1?

Use this non-drill method.
  1. Use a sharp chisel and hammer to turn out the lower shear bolt.
  2. Press the top retaining pin fully with a punch or pick.
  3. Slide the barrel/lock assembly straight out of the tube. Replace the lock or repair the insert after removal. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]

Do I need to drill the ignition lock on a C3 to get it out?

No. Owners removed the assembly without drilling by releasing the lower shear bolt and pressing the top retaining pin. This preserves the housing and column. Drilling risks collateral damage and metal shavings in the mechanism. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]

Can a locksmith repair just the insert (liner) instead of replacing the whole lock?

Yes. A competent automotive locksmith can rebuild or replace the insert and keep your original key code. This can reduce cost and avoid changing door locks. “Any good key bet will repair the liner.” Ask for a written estimate before proceeding. [Elektroda, andrzej20001, post #17434600]

Is the steering lock what’s holding the key from turning?

No. The issue is the barrel not turning to Position 1. The steering lock engages because the barrel is stuck. To remove the barrel, press the top retaining pin while working the assembly. “You have to combine with pressing the pin on the top of the tube.” [Elektroda, milejow, post #19650138]

How do I disconnect the ignition-switch wiring without damaging the connector?

Support the switch, then depress the connector’s locking tabs simultaneously and pull the plug straight out. Do not lever by the wires or pry the plastic cover. Check for a secondary lock and release it first. Use a trim tool or pick to avoid cracking the housing. [Citroën ServiceBox — Electrical connectors]

What if the steering lock mechanism breaks during removal?

This edge case happens if the pawl or housing cracks under force. Replace the full steering lock/ignition housing assembly if broken. Inspect the column for burrs before installing the new unit. Forcing the mechanism increases damage risk and cost. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434668]

How much will this repair cost me?

Expect around PLN 500 for a new ignition lock assembly, excluding labor. A locksmith repair of the insert can be cheaper, depending on wear and parts availability. Compare options before committing. Keep receipts for immobilizer or key-related work. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]

Can I start the C3 with a toggle switch or by bridging ignition wires?

Do not bypass the ignition wiring. It creates safety risks, can damage electronics, and may violate local laws. Seek a licensed locksmith or proper repair. As one owner noted, sharing such info “will be useful to some thief,” which we will not facilitate. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]

What’s the easiest way to start repair without destroying the old lock?

Relieve steering torque, then access the lock tube. Press the top retaining pin while supporting the barrel. If it still refuses to release, consult a locksmith to avoid breaking the housing or steering lock. This approach minimizes damage and labor. [Elektroda, milejow, post #19650138]

Which tools do I need to remove the C3 ignition lock cleanly?

Gather a sharp cold chisel, small hammer, punch or pick for the retaining pin, and basic Torx/trim tools for shrouds. Penetrant and a small flashlight help visibility. Work patiently to spin the lower shear bolt without marring the housing. [Elektroda, ludziepomocy, post #17434515]
