Direct and Indirect addressing

I have been reading on the direct/ indirect addressing of the pic 16F84A, and i dont seem to really understand, i have been reading it from http://www.romux.com/tutorials/pic-tutorial/memory-organization, but i don't understand its use, or how to use it, I would appreciate any help from this...

I get it now, the INDF (at 0x00h) file only reads from FSR, and the FSR takes in addresses as values, so whenever you try to read from the INDF it goes to the FSR takes in the value of the FSR (which is actually an address to a file), finds the address which is the same as the value, and then reads what is that address..... I hope I am right

For instance:
MOVLW 0DH ; move the literal value 'OD' to the working register
MOVWF 04H ; Moves the value of the working register i.e '0D' to the file address '04' which is the FSR then

- so now whenever you read INDF what you would actually get would be '0D', right, Colin, Steve,

Not quite. Now, my PIC assembly is rusty (stopped programming in assembly long ago in favor of C), so treat the following as "pseudo code":

Say you want to initialize the content of 3 consecutive files, starting at 0100h, by writing a 3 into each of them.

MOVF 00h 03h ; write a '3' to the INDF file, thus causing the '3' to actually be written to the file at address 0100h
