Hello all, I'm new to this board. Just by taking a brief overview of this board, I'm less then a speck on the wall in the grand scene of things. As with most professional message boards, they are certain level of professional qualifications one must have to be associated with them. Before I would to post anything, I would like to make sure that I'm not an outsider before I start.
I'm not an electrical engineer by any means. I'm a journeyman electrician who winds up working at a level as a electrical technician as described which is actually part of career ladders in some parts of the U.S. My job is part of a facilities ground that takes care of 150+ buildings for the federal government. In the course of my duties, I find myself wearing an engineers hat from time to time. Based on my experience, it's usually nothing I can't handle since I'm bit of geek to the trade so I read and study many facets of the trade as the job requires. Fortunate for me, as needed, I have access to resources and training opportunities as needed to bone up on topics as needed. I can understand what is in front of us rather reviewing documents, finished work, and better understand the nuances of what we need to be done so we head in the appropriate direction as needed. I have the support of engineers of all disciplines as well. Pretty much all of the engineering work is done by the private sector. Basically, our job is to identify the needs and get it going in the right direction to the private sector.
My primary interest to be part of this board is to broaden my knowledge and to understand the electrical whelm. I'm not the type who does things just because a code or a standard says so. I pursue why it's even there in the first place. Hence I'm a pocket protector away from being a geek but I'm alright with that, no offense to anyone. If the members or rules of this board determines this board is not an appropriate place for a person like me to collaborate on topics, I'll respectfully delete my profile and move on. I feel these professional boards are an indispensable resource to their respective trades as long their standards are maintained. If I don't make the cut, it is what it is.
