Amica GA20E80G Microwave Oven: Hums, Burnout Smell - Grill Function Works, Repair or Replace?

How can I fix a microwave that suddenly hums and smells burnt in microwave mode, while the grill still works: repair it or replace it?

If the burnt smell is only from soot behind the mica waveguide cover, remove the mica, clean the charred area, and replace the mica plate/cover [#6333501][#6334031] If the magnetron itself is burnt or has a fault to the housing/input, the consensus was that it is damaged and the only real fix is to replace the magnetron [#6349743][#6350377] One reply estimated that repair would cost around PLN 150, so buying a new microwave may be more economical [#6341687] The fact that the grill still works does not rule this out, because the grill can operate without the magnetron.

    Hello

I have a microwave as in the subject today (suddenly) it started to hum and something stinks during the hum (smell of burnout), the microwave has a grill function which probably works normally because during its operation the device is quiet,

after removing the casing, I can't locate the source of this ominous smell because everything is packed quite tightly.

The question is, can anyone help me because I'm green in this, or is it better to send it for repair or buy a new one?

the part of the chamber behind the mica must have charred from the moisture
remove the mica and check that the casing is not sooted
clean everything, replace the mica and it will be ok

well, I wrote that I'm green, and it's not worth giving to a specialist, so if I manage to fix it myself, I'll succeed if I break something completely, it's hard, that's why I asked for tips.

mica is a plate made of insulating material that allows microwaves generated in the magnetron to pass through

in short, a flat plate, usually of a creamy silver color, attached to the side inside the device, dividing the microwave launcher chamber

Amica GA20E80G Microwave Oven: Hums, Burnout Smell - Grill Function Works, Repair or Replace?

this part has broken, you can clearly see the burnt piece of the copper one.
My question now is what is this part called and what can be replaced or is it all or part and where can I get such a thing if possible?

Buddy, unfortunately, I will sadden you, if this element is really burned out, the cost of repair is around PLN 150. This part is a magnetron so rather a new cooker awaits you

it seems to me that this is because after removing this part, the stove works normally - nothing hums and the grill works.

Buddy, when you removed the microwave magnetron, now you only have a grill and there is nothing to rumble there.

but I don't really know which diode or capacitor it is, and besides, this magneton, as you can see in the picture, is burnt so I thought it was it.

The point is whether there is no transition to the housing of the magnetron input (where the wires enter).

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around an Amica GA20E80G microwave oven that has started to hum and emit a burning smell, while the grill function appears to operate normally. Users suggest that the issue may stem from a charred mica plate or a damaged magnetron. The mica plate, an insulating component, allows microwaves to pass through and can become sooted or burnt due to moisture. If the magnetron is indeed burnt, repair costs could be around PLN 150, leading to the suggestion of replacing the microwave instead. The author expresses uncertainty about identifying components like the diode or capacitor, but ultimately discovers that the magnetron is damaged and successfully replaces it for PLN 40.
