    Hello.
I found a folder called Windows.old on my C drive which takes almost 20 giga.
I was a bit surprised because I have a new laptop with Windows 10 pro 64bit.
And on the net I read that these are the remains of old Windows, e.g. 7 or 8.
So there shouldn't be a folder on a new laptop.
Was there a different system on the new laptop before? Is that how I understand it?

And can I delete this folder without damaging Windows?

    Windows 10 Pro 64bit.

Was it new with this system?
See the contents of the Windows.old folder. There may be data, documents, settings etc. from the previous system.

It was so new, I bought it 2 weeks ago the laptop looked like new.

And under the laptop there is even a sticker with the logo of the X-kom store with the Windows key.

In the Windows folder you have the file explorer.exe - you can compare it with yours and or check its version.
In the Users folder you have the folder of the previous user "gryfi", that is, someone has already logged into the old system on this disk.

    Gryfi user is me.

I read somewhere else that Windows 10 pro also creates the Windows.old folder.

I will throw it when I find it.

I can't open explorer.exe but I can see the creation date on it, it was created 3 days ago, it's like these files are mine.

And 3 days ago I had creators update.

Maybe it has something to do with it.

Probably yes. File updates can make such copies of the system.
If there are no files in your folder that you prefer not to lose, then you can delete the whole.

Are there any system restore files in this Windows.old folder?

I am a bit afraid that if I delete it, I may not have the option to restore the system in the event of a failure.

I also got a few days ago updated "seriously" win10 including "creators update" - that is, it turned off 10 times with this update.
And I'm checking it - in cleaning the disk "clean system files" - there were about 20 GB of old files from before the update.

Is this Windows.old folder created before or after creators update?

Well, rather because I noticed that the disk "decreased" by 20 GB which with a 120 GB SSS drive was not difficult :-)

Have you previously had another version of Windows on this drive?

Well, I do not know what's going on - but I serve: this disk was in another computer and the current one is win10 all the time I think there was an update that you had to install again because everything broke :-)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the presence of a Windows.old folder on a new laptop running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, which is taking up approximately 20 GB of space. The user is concerned about whether this folder indicates remnants of a previous operating system and if it is safe to delete it without harming the current Windows installation. Responses confirm that the Windows.old folder can be created during system updates, such as the Creators Update, and may contain user data from a previous installation. Users are advised to check the contents of the folder and ensure no critical files are present before deletion. It is also suggested to create a system restore point as a precaution before proceeding with the deletion.
