Hello, I need to buy a video recorder / car camera with an infrared function so that at night in a total darkness something can be seen. There are a lot of devices equipped with infrared, but I could not find any video on youtube that would show how such a thing behaves at night in the total lack of light.

Let's assume about PLN 400 for the budget. I don't know honestly. For PLN 200, I would not even buy an ordinary one because I know that it has poor recording quality even during the day.

My point is that it should be able to cope in complete darkness without any lights in the car or on the road.

How far should something be visible?

I have Xblitz Go Full HD and it is doing well, in complete darkness it also does the right thing

Usually, a video recorder mounted in the car copes very badly in complete darkness. First, infrared illuminates the glass pane first, and the reflected light makes the image a bit hazy. Secondly, the power of the illuminator at the video recorder is very small. Outside, in complete darkness, the range of such an illuminator is several meters. Sometimes 2 meters. Depends on the recorder model.

I have to disagree here :) yes, it is known that it will not be perfect, but mine is really good, the image may not be perfect, but the visibility is maintained :) this xblitz camera that I linked is not bad.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around finding a car camera with infrared capabilities suitable for recording in total darkness. The initial inquiry highlights the difficulty in locating effective devices, particularly those that perform well without any ambient light. Participants suggest a budget of around PLN 400, with recommendations for the xBlitz brand, specifically the xBlitz Go Full HD model, which is noted for its night mode functionality. However, there are concerns regarding the limitations of infrared illuminators, which may only provide visibility for a few meters in complete darkness. Despite these limitations, users report satisfactory performance from the xBlitz camera in low-light conditions.
