    Hello colleagues.
I decided to post here in the forum because maybe one of you had a similar problem or knows something and will help me.
I've already had a car with a few mechanics and everyone spreads their hands, and I'm not a millionaire to pay for their lottery ideas.
So yes Mercedes C class 2003 1.8 compressor 163 HP car after firing crazy at revs when it warms up is ok but not what it was and should be. Every mechanic walked towards the flowmeter throttle etc ... the computer does not show any errors. I think he lost some power. The timing chain is also not heard.
After unscrewing the oil plug recently, it stinks with exhaust fumes and smokes a little, could this have something to do with the fault?
I will add that I am not a mechanic.
Thanks in advance for all the hints etc.

Camshaft (m271) crumbled widely in these engines, including skipping.

Hello. I am also honestly curious what helped, because I often jump with revolutions, sometimes not, riding at low speed lint. New candles. Something with timing pops up on the computer, after deleting and driving a few km, the "check" lights up again. What do you think??

if "something with a camshaft" pops up, it is to replace the camshaft. Standard on this engine - the chain is pulled out. Don't ride because it jumps.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a 2003 Mercedes C-Class (W203) with a 1.8 Compressor engine experiencing uneven operation when cold. The owner reports erratic revs that stabilize upon warming, alongside a noticeable loss of power. Multiple mechanics have been consulted, but no error codes were found on the computer diagnostics. Suggestions from forum members include checking for oil leaks in the variators, replacing the timing chain and tensioner due to their limited lifespan (max 200,000 km), and addressing potential camshaft issues, as these are common problems in this engine model. The owner also noted a foul smell from the oil, raising concerns about exhaust contamination.
