Hello, I'm going to buy a new TV mainly for playing on ps4. What matrix VA or IPS is best to buy a TV for the ps4 console? I mean the best picture when playing. Thank you in advance for any info.

I searched the net and read that ps4 is better for TV with VA because IPS have a smudge. I don't know anymore - I may ask otherwise - Tv preferably 43 inches / 49 inches will come but on the contact / budget 3.5k I was thinking about some TV with Line 2017 because prices have fallen sharply.

Just gaming monitors are 80% overpriced, and those with IPS panels are outstanding in this respect and this is not a compliment.

And smudging on IPS is bullshit.

VA matrices usually give a better picture than IPS and you should definitely look at such in the first place. Although a lot depends on what you play at any time. Generally, the more you play during the day and the less dark the games, the smaller the difference between IPS and VA. This is because the VA panels are able to display several times darker black which is reflected in the contrast.

In addition, if the TV is to be viewed by several people from different places, then IPS gains due to better viewing angles, although this is not an iron rule, sometimes IPS with angles worse than VA will happen.

If you can add PLN 200, probably the best will be:

    Input lag perfect.

    Summary:
PROS. High quality for this price range. Very low input lag - a great choice for players. Great viewing angles. Good quality factory image modes, susceptible to calibration. Presence of a liquefier system despite a 60 Hz matrix. Full support HEVC 4K files, terrestrial and satellite. Built-in satellite tuner

CONS Reduced functionality of the Smart TV 60Hz matrix (justified at this price) Little potential for rendering HDR effects and a wide range of colors (justified at this price) No support for a wide range of colors (details in the test) Low contrast, as in a typical IPS matrix (55 ´´ Has a VA matrix)

FAQ

TL;DR: For PS4 gaming, a 60 Hz set with “Very low input lag - a great choice for players” beats IPS-vs-VA debates. IPS favors viewing angles; VA gives deeper blacks. [Elektroda, Ludwik XVI, post #17257553]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps PS4 gamers pick a TV—panel type, size, and models—without getting burned by input lag.

Quick Facts

Which is better for PS4 gaming, IPS or VA panels?

VA delivers higher contrast, so dark scenes look richer. IPS gives wider viewing angles, helpful for off‑axis seating. Play mostly in bright rooms or with friends? IPS helps. Play dark, cinematic games in a dim room? VA shines. Edge case: Some IPS models can still have worse angles than certain VA sets. [Elektroda, Piterixos, post #17255079]

Does input lag matter more than panel type for PS4?

Yes. “Input Lag counts.” Pick a TV with low input lag in Game mode before debating IPS vs VA. Then match panel type to your room and seating. Share budget and distance to refine size and model picks. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17253772]

Is “smudging” on IPS panels a real issue for PS4 gaming?

No. As one user put it, “smudging on IPS is bullshit.” Motion clarity depends on overall response and processing, not IPS alone. Judge specific models, not just the panel label. [Elektroda, Piterixos, post #17255079]

Is the Sony XE70 good for PS4?

Yes for responsiveness. The 43XE70 has very low input lag and a 60 Hz panel. IPS brings wide viewing angles but low contrast. HDR and wide color are limited. Note: the 55-inch XE70 uses VA instead of IPS. [Elektroda, Ludwik XVI, post #17257553]

Why was the Samsung MU8000 suggested for gaming?

A member recommended the 49MU8000 with a link to detailed measurements. It’s positioned as a strong gaming choice if you can add ~200 PLN. Consider it when stretching slightly above the initial budget. [Elektroda, Piterixos, post #17255079]

Is the Philips 49PUS8303 a good 49-inch option?

It was highlighted at 3399 PLN with low input lag and rich features. The post cites “Nano Cell,” “Best equipment,” and Ambivoox sound. It’s presented as a feature-forward 49-inch alternative within this budget. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17254599]

Should I target previous-year models to save money?

Yes. Prior-year lines often drop sharply, making them good value. The OP explored 2017 models specifically because prices had fallen. Verify input lag and panel type per model before buying. [Elektroda, Graczps4, post #17254506]

What screen size fits a 2.0–2.5 m viewing distance?

Use a viewing-angle target around 30–40°. At roughly 2.0–2.5 m, 49–55 inches typically fits that range. A distance calculator can refine the pick for your room. [“TV Size to Distance Calculator”]

Does panel type change by size within the same series?

Yes, it can. In Sony’s XE70, the 43-inch uses IPS, while the 55-inch uses VA. Always confirm the panel for your exact size before ordering. [Elektroda, Ludwik XVI, post #17257553]

Is OLED worth stretching the budget for PS4?

One participant said they “would have already taken OLED.” If picture quality priority and budget allow, that’s a valid path. Decide based on your use and price tolerance. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17263443]

What input lag should I consider responsive for PS4?

Use real measurements as benchmarks. For example, Samsung MU8000 measured about 21 ms in Game mode at 4K. Target similarly low numbers when comparing candidates. [“Samsung MU8000 Review”]
