line follower robot, need suggestions

Hi everybody
i am just starting in embedded field I want to make line follower robot

THe robot over pipe The IR sensor is use to sense the pipe. when infrared signal fall on white surface its get reflected and if it fall on black surface it is not reflected

please suggest me what type of Microcontroller and compiler is use for this project

You have to use AVR series Microcontroller and also *Atmega16*, because if u use this one it consists of pull up resistor so u don't have to use external pull up resistors due to which the output coming from sensor which is input for microcontroller, thus received sensor signal amplifies due to internal pull up resistor.

then for programming u have to use *AVR Studio 4.0* and for Burning hex file to microcontroller u should use *PonyProg software*.

Most of the newer PIC microcontrollers also have internal pull-up resistors on their inputs (that can be turned on or off). Then there is the MPLab (a free IDE) and Microchip's C complier that has a free version, and the PICkit 2 or 3 (around $50 though you might be able to find one for less on eBay) and you're all set. Then all you have to do is design and build the hardware and write the firmware

Also, this doesn't look like PIC code [I'm only fimilar with the PIC microcontrollers], and even though I recommended the Microchip C compiler, I don't use it, so even if this is PIC code, I'm not familiar with some of the syntax you are using (like, why is the main() func in some sort of non-standard [apparent] #include statement?)

Also, if the idea is to follow a line, don't you need more than one sensor? So you can detect which side of the line you're on? And, when you do apply two sensors, how is just starting and stopping both motors going to steer the bot? If you stop both motors, isn't the whole thing just going to stop? The way you have it, this is merely a "line finder", not a "line follower".
