I wish to use LM380 at 1.5W output power. Data sheet specifies operating voltage as 10V to 24V. I have 9V battery, I tested the circuit , it is working.

My querry is, is it advisable to use LM380 with 9V?, if not what is compromised at 9V?

If this is a "one off" for your own use, then you be the judge, but if it's for production, then it's NEVER a good idea to violate the manufacturer's specifications. Not even if you call them and ask and they give you the OK -- if it isn't in writing, then it's your neck in the noose.
