Circuit for lighting BL-T5/6W

Hello,
i want to light up a BL-T5/6W lamp on 220 V / 50 hz supply for my daughter's school project work. Please suggest a simple circuit board which I can make at home.

it's very simple all you knead is a ballsiest coil system and a step down trans former. any good electric shop should have the stuff you knead or home improvement store.

Please specify which step down tranformer and which ballest coil system I should use. and in which series they should be used.

I am a doctor by profession and completely noob in electronics. Although I can solder and arrange them. This is all i can do :)

This is not a simple project -- definitely not a good "starter project". I suggest just buying a ready made fixture -- they aren't that expensive.

I mean, even if you were to buy the ballast and connectors (not sure what they are called, but the terminals that hold and supply power to the [florescent] tube) you would still have to mount them to something and get the separation right (very precise spacing required or it will either not hold the tube in correctly, or it will be impossible to get the tube in place. Unless this is some sort of pride, I-made-this-myself-for-my-daughter, thing, save yourself some time and money and get one already made.

But, one question. You say on 220V/50Hz -- are you not in an area where this is the standard supply?

Could you upload the data on the light please or include a partnumber, stock number of the bulb and where you buy this from As having searched on the net There are many different types of Blt bulbs, also tubes Even a picture would help so that I can identify what type

Secondly could you also explian what type of switching circuit you want to use example Simple on off circuit, timed on off circuit, motion sensing switched circuit, switching circuit for light, dark as in emegency lighting, momentary switched in other words push for on switch released off

Finally could you tell us wether this is to be a class room experiment In other words will this be operated by youngsters, will this be supervised by teachers adults etc as under these curcumstances there are certian safety precautions that must be adhered too for everyones saftey baring in mind you are now playing with 250 volts and possible ballast coils as one person has suggested as an easy answer

Ballast coils themselves can delever a very high voltage via back emf when switched on and off further if not handled correctly can give a very nasty shock Very dangerous under your circumstances

Could you also advise as to what insurance cover both the school or you are provided for in the event of an accident occuring and could you also please explain what this might imply to anyonyone designing this for you or on your behalf and what the legal consequences might be should this go wrong and how they might be covered if at all

This is a collective class project. Every student have to contribute something and my daughter have to contribute this part. It is not necessary that I have to make it my self. I agree that it is not a project for myself. Earlier I thought may be I will be able to do it myself. I didn't get this ready made in my area. So I also contacted electricians in my area today, they tell that they will fix it for me but they dont know which components are to be used. I f I can tell them which ballasts etc are to be used they will make it for me. they dont know which components to be used. Since such lamps are not common in our area (a small town in India). They will arrange the connectors etc.

Although I have got the t5/6w BL tubelight. and I will also get the ballasts needed. But even the seller dont know which ballasts etc and how they have to be used. Need some help in this regard

Thanks a lot for your efforts.
Below is the some details

2) It will be a simple on/off switch. It is a collective class room project. Something for seeing UV Rays effect on chemical curing. tube will be fitted in a box. Simple on/off switch is needed.

3) Project will be handled by their teachers themselves. Students have to contribute only the components. So we have to contribute a working lamp which they will fit themselves in Box. they said that circuit can be fitted in a closed box and wires coming out should connect to tube via connectors etc. which they can fit inside a closed box.

There will be no legal consequneces I think because students will not be directly working in the project. I myself will handover the component to teachers which they will connect in a working model. Students only be studying the effects of UV light under the guidance of Teachers and senior students.

I contacted electricians in my area they said that they can arrange the components (ballasts, step down transformers etc) if I tell them which are to be used and they can also connect them in working.

Exact tube is this one. Above link shows white tube. which gives blue light. This one is blue tube which gives blue light. I think rest of the specifications are same

Thanks a lot for your support.

Finally, I got the components Needed. In India they are called 7w/9w/13 w Mini choke and a 4w to 13 w starter.

They are joined in circuit like they are joined for any 40 w / 20 w fluorescent tube.

And project worked seamlessly :)
