Receiving RF Signals With an iPhone

I am working on an ios/android app and one of the options we are investigating is the ability of the smartphone to receive RF signals from automobile remote entry devices (a.k.a. a clicker or fob). We don't necessarily need to tell what the code being transmitted is, but we do need to be able to tell that the lock button has been pressed and if possible be able to tell if there is some unique identifier for that device. I am pretty sure that this will require some additional hardware and hopefully it can be a small device that would either plug into the headphone jack. I am not an engineer nor am I very technical so please limit responses to layman's terms. Again basic requirements:

- need to be able to recognize that someone has pushed the lock button on the car remote
-don't need to know the code that was pressed but some way of telling the unique identifier for the car or remote would be nice.
-what type of hardware is necessary for both ios and android devices, and estimate of manufacturing cost.

This is only a suggestion. You need an ordinary cell phone and dtmf (dual tone multi frequency) encoder to access the phone installed in your car, then it will automatically send a sms in your smartphone.

I think what he means is a sms modem and you need something like an arduino or pic based system to do this Even a Bluetooth module would suffice given a certain circumference from the vehicle However this requires programming knowledge which you say you don’t have .

Like everything in the world , this also costs money to achieve these aims In your case this would be to ask someone to put this together for you The answer is yes we can, but its down to time and money To even provide quotations of this nature take time , development and obviously someone has to pay for this

You can even tell what lock is pushed or what door is opened, window etc , lights , seats etc its essentially down to design You can also use WiFi , bare in mind access to RF solutions are not free apart from Bluetooth The ISP , Mobile phone company will charge you for this at a predetermined rate dependant on your network and location

Dont forget also that you need knowledge of android to achive this as well This requires that you must be able to programe in java as well and C or other lnaguages So looks easy , sounds easy , but in actual fact requires at leats 5 to 7 skills inclusive hardware and knowledge of car electrics , plus design skills ,installation skills , enginerring skills , ability to read draw and understand schematics , diagrams , technical data , Aaaaah , Yes its is Aaaaah , no butter butter but but buts , Aaaah

Finally whilst asking people to achieve these ambitions for you and provide these wonderful colorful implementations of your most exciting thoughts

It is definitely extremely advantageous not to disturb , bother , be an ancestral pain in the lower cheeks, pester , nagg or otherwise being wonderfully pleasant at all times else the results may not be quite as you expected with possible exclusion from these domains of true finite wisdom

Not that easy anymore is this then That I'm afraid is knowledge and know how Its what you pay for together with all other 3 billion skills that you demand , expect etc etc

So to begin with estimations for manufacturing thats putting a design like this together for you means ata least a months two months work That has to be paid for !! Im leaving this right there for you to dwell on in multiple angles . maybe even more because you hjave also got to take into account how many differnet vehicles so Retrofitt is required Planning

The only challenges i see you facing are identifying a unique Id thats going to be very difficult from the remote side as most of these are rolling code so you will have to implement this inside a vehicle not from a remote side in other wrds not TX side Only RX side Ie. from inside the vehicle , also if you think about this its thn autmatically security aware meaning that through interaction you can block access to via the rmote to the vehicles operations should someone pick up the keyfob and try to use it without permissions

So we have notify on transmitt , autherise use , and lock out if not autherised In otherwords keyfob unuseable Finally in worst possible scenario

Blow up intruder or eject unwanted passenger ( Additional thought Forward thinking I call it )

Many applications to this I can assure you not just vehicle iether

One other problem I dont write for Iphone could do but to many restrictions on Iphone (Like want stack of course fees , everything has to go via Iphone etc to many stipulations Restricts my choice of freedom you see , takes my spirit away ") hence why only android and J2ME ( I dont like being restricted by companies ) Bit of a funny man me when it comes to having these restrictions placed I do however quite fancy , like Blackbury just cant afford the phone at the moment So thats Blackbury covered as well as Sony Erickson
