Senior Design Project Ideas?

I am a EET major and need to come up with an idea for my senior project. I would like to do something sports-related (preferrably basketball or football) but it doesn't have to be. My knowledge of C/C++ programming and PLCs is about the same so I have no preference with how it's programmed. I just need some good ideas.

How about putting an accelerometer and wireless link inside a football or basketball and providing realtime feedback on various stats such as velocity, acceleration, distance, etc. You could process the real-time data on a host computer using your C/C++ knowledge.

This is an idea that could be applied to a real product where sportscaster use the data to show interesting stats during a game, such as the speed a quarterback throws a ball (football), or how fast players pass the ball between each other (basketball).
