Hi Sanjeeven,
In Power System,
Failure in changeover results to different scenarios depending on what time of system you're using or how you design the system.
Assuming a generator, a battery, and a load:
Battery automatically handles the load if there is a power interruption
Usually, this battery is connected to the generator which is expected to have lower voltage than the output voltage of the generator. ( this is done to prevent overcharging of the battery )
Set the generator in operation supplying both battery and the load.
This results to:
-Insufficient supply to the load that could damage some components within the load
-Damage to the battery.
-Prolonged additional devices to compensate the problem in supplies and etc.
Other cases:
-Switching large amount of current could produce welding of contacts within the relay.
-Dielectric breakdown for some hi-end switching systems.
To prevent such problems and failures:
-Regular Check-up of the System.
-There are some technologies have been made to solve such problems. Try to search some.
Hope it helps.
God Bless.
Best,
Neil
