Motion or Laser Sensor

I'll start off with some small background info.

I'm a former business major switching to electrical engineering major. I have a basic and more than the average knowledge of electronics. I know what isn't feasible and what is possible. Now to my questions...

I'm looking to make a small scale motion or laser sensor that can be used in a small space. I also have a question about pressure sensors.

I could use any help I can get designing the circuit and possibly the actual thing that would hold the sensor.

The sensor(s) will be part of a project that hopefully I can create an actual project with.

I want to share as much info as I can to help but I do want to keep most of this project confidential unless I can have someone sign a non-disclosure agreement.
