Highwave Optical Technologies electrically tunable Bragg grating filter datasheet/manual

I am new here and I am not entirely sure if this is the right section to post this. If not, then please excuse me.

I have an electrically *tunable bragg grating filter* made by *Highwave Optical Technologies*. The problem is I do not have the datasheet/manual for this device. I was wondering if someone could help me out with the datasheet/manual.

This device uses optical input and output and only* a electrical input for tuning*.

I see that the *Highwave Optical Technologies* don't even have a website. If I may ask, don't they provide like a manual for this which includes the datasheet? Maybe could try reaching the manufacturer where you got this.

The problem lies exactly there. The company is no longer there. They have been acquired multiple times over the last 10 years and I couldn't trace them anymore.
Usually it should come with a manual, however, my prof got it from someone else and I believe the manual/datasheet has been lost in the process. So now, we have a device that works, but don't know to operate it (ratings). Also, this device seems to be a bit expensive, so my prof wants to make this work.

That is sad to hear. I'm guessing that this device is already phased out and have no more support from the manufacturer. I would suggest you look for a similar device having the same function as this one.

There is not much I can do to help.

Some countries have a national library which keeps virtually anything that is published. If the device was novel enough, then a manual may have found its way there.
Do Universities have a bulletin board of some sort, if so, advertise in that. Does your professor have extensive contacts, it is possible that there may be the same device in others labs, particularly in the country of origin. Do you have some competent electronics engineers, open it up and see if the electronics are trivial enough to sort out how it works. Use the address for the original company (should be on patent documents) to track down who owns the site now. If it is in the same business, they may have been the company that bought up the previous one, and may still have some information. Check patents, there may be enough information there to find out how it works, a patent search on the using the company name and tunable bragg grating filter returns some hits. Try some research labs doing this sort of optical work, you may get some leads that way. By the way, if there is a name and serial number or model number on the unit, it always helps to include that, other than that, there is little I can offer that will help,

Hi, thank you for your suggestions. The device is quite small, so, we won't be able to open it up. I am trying out the patent search. I do have the serial number: 8319806.
I am attaching 2 pictures if they help in any way.

Anything can be opened, as long as the screws aren't security types, and the unit isn't potted. It just takes some care and the right tools. I do a lot of work under a x20-40 stereo microscope, you should have one at the university in any number of departments. Between that and patent info, you may be able to figure out how it works.
