Please help with my Boost Converter Design Problem

Hi, I have designed a DC-DC boost converter and built it on performance board. The only problem I am having is that it is boosting under no load conditions only. When I set it up with a 30 Ohm 50W load, 3 10 Ohm 50W resistors, the output voltage drops to 0.04 volts. I really can't seem to figure out what the issue is. I'm driving it at 100kHz, from an attiny45 to an irlz44n mosfet. Feedback loop then returns to the microcontroller to regulate the output voltage at 30V, 220uH inductance, a 1N5819 5A diode and 10uF cap.

While the MOSFET is ON it is building up current in the inductor. When the MOSFET turns off that current is diverted into the load. So, the output voltage can never be more than the simple V=IR relationship of the inductor current and the load resistance.
There are many other factors, but that seems like a good starting point.

your circuit will have some way to measure the MOSFET current. Perhaps teh control IC turns the current off at a certain value?
If there is no load, then when the MOSFET turns off the inductor current will flow into the (very low) load and produce a high voltage - due to back emf etc.
When the load is big that same current can only produce a smaller voltage according to V= I R where I is the inductor current & R is the load resistance.

That is ignoring the effects of output capacitance, duty cycle and so on. They make the voltage even less in practice.

Thanks Michael, I haven't considered current sensing, assumed that when the pwm signal is low the mosfet will switch off. I do have a voltage divider which regulates the duty cycle so that the output voltage should be a constant 30V.
