Why is the main page photo of the person in dark glasses featured on the website?

Why do you think that awful photo of the person in dark glasses on your main page is either interesting or amusing?

I'm afraid you've completely baffled me... can you be more specific?

I had a look at the EPE site and I too am baffled.  However I do see targeted adverts on the left and right hand sides, this may be what you're objecting to?  There is an "X" icon (shown arrowed below) which might get rid of it, more likely you'll just get something different.  But at least you'll get rid of the dude with the dark glasses....

Oh if it's _those_ ads, they are generated by Google & Co and relate to behavioural advertising, other sites that may have been visited and cookies, the usual sort of thing. Different visitors will see different ads. and I have already removed the main (Google adsense) banner ad from the home page.
