I had a look at the EPE site and I too am baffled. However I do see targeted adverts on the left and right hand sides, this may be what you're objecting to? There is an "X" icon (shown arrowed below) which might get rid of it, more likely you'll just get something different. But at least you'll get rid of the dude with the dark glasses....
Oh if it's _those_ ads, they are generated by Google & Co and relate to behavioural advertising, other sites that may have been visited and cookies, the usual sort of thing. Different visitors will see different ads. and I have already removed the main (Google adsense) banner ad from the home page. You can choose not to accept cookies via the cookie control bar I added along the top of each web page.More details of the web site cookie policy can be found here.
