The main difference, however, lies in the operation of Switch and Hub. Well, the former works in the second layer of the OSI model (data link), its task is to transfer frames between segments. So the switch remembers on which port a given computer is located and transmits information to it, and not to all devices in the network.

The Hub, on the other hand, works on the first layer of the OSI (the physical layer), copying, amplifying and sending the signal from one computer to all others connected to it. This causes a lot of traffic on the network and therefore a decrease in its performance.
