    Hello colleagues.
My neighbor, who does not have the Internet, has an unusual problem. I installed her Word on the new computer. It worked until my daughter pressed something, and Polish letters are no longer displayed. The Alt + letter key does not introduce our letters to the text. Interestingly, earlier documents display Polish letters, but adding new ones within the same document does not work anymore. I was doing an office reinstallation but it did not seem to be any improvement. The icons "PL" and "Polish" are preserved on the taskbar.
    What will you advise?

And click on the PL icon in the taskbar with the right button and enter the settings should be the Polish language of the programmer - check it

And if you press, for example, "colon" (without alt) what will be displayed in the word "
If the Polish letter means that the language is Polish but the type "214" and you need to switch to the type "Polish (programmer)"

    Hello colleagues.
I checked the settings in the language bar carefully.
The language setting is "Polish". In the keyboard settings there is "Polish programmer" instead of "Polish 214". Additionally, in the Advanced / Compatibility Configuration tab, the "extend support for advanced text services to all programs" function is selected.
    And still nothing.
I am looking for a program that would easily check the operation of the keyboard. Maybe alt isn't working. However, I think that you need ... reinstallation of the system :( .

The only rational solution I could think of is to hit ctrl + shift and check if it works. However, if zyas are in place, there may be a problem with the Alt key itself, which can be problematic to check, although as someone wrote in another topic, you can check it with the program - http://www.passmark.com/products/keytest. htm

Check the operation of Alt in another application, e.g. Notepad, browser, etc.

You do not have an application that takes over keyboard shortcuts with Alt installed (e.g. something from points 2 and 3 Answers to frequently asked questions )?

Doesn't your friend have an ATI card? Disable keyboard shortcuts in the ATI control panel. best regards

WinXP remembers these per-app tail settings, so it shows you the developer keyboard in the keyboard settings. Turn on the 'language bar', and click in the Word window. It will probably show something else.

    Other things to test:
Left Alt + Shift press and release. Check Polish characters. How does not help repeat. (By default, you have 3 keyboards installed: English, Polish prog., And Polish 214. This combination switches cyclically.)

The easiest way out: Delete English and 214 in the panel, you'll be fine.

Besides, as @metalli says - ATI Control Center blocks 'ae' and I think 'ś'. You can turn off hotkeys somewhere in it.

    Hello colleagues.
The case was cleared up. The lack of Polish letters was due to a damaged keyboard. Only now did the neighbor's daughter admit that she had not pressed something, but punched the keyboard. For the new one, she will be deducted from her pocket money :)
I would like to thank my colleagues for all their help. Hints on what to check in the system and for the keyboard testing program.

PS. I had a similar problem with Catalist Control Center blocking the letters "ae", but the rest of the letters were still working properly. None worked here. Catalist was not installed on my neighbor's computer. Only the ati graphics driver.

    Points. I close the post.

The discussion revolves around a problem where Polish letters cannot be typed in Microsoft Word after a keyboard issue. The user initially installed Word on a new computer, but after a keyboard mishap, the Alt + letter key combination stopped functioning for Polish characters, despite previous documents displaying them correctly.
