    Hello
the patient is A4 1.9TDI AJM
the car noticeably "silted up", Vag showed error 17965 "turbocharging regulation limit exceeded"
The steering wheels were cleaned two weeks ago, they were completely dirty
After cleaning, the car came to life noticeably
but now history has repeated itself, where to look for the reason????
    I`m waiting for information
    Regards
    T

ok, thank you, I`ll start checking tomorrow
N75 is new, i.e. 2 months old, but I will test the actuators

With the error described, there is no point in using a vacuum pump or checking the vacuum hoses and coils for tightness,
After all, the turbo overloads, so what are we talking about leaks? In this case there are only three possibilities:
    - variable geometry hangs again in the max position. top-ups,
    - the barbell gets stuck inside the vacuum tube,
    - clogged ATMO channel in N75 or the hose leading from it to the air filter.
Stop looking for any leaks - this is not the way to solve the problem, if you notice that the variable geometry is jamming, file a complaint with the contractor - unless you cleaned it yourself ;)

I got a reprieve from you. What barbell is inside the coil?

However, I was amused by the fact that the bleeder in the VNT does not work, my friend, and as for the barbell, it does not end or start at the pear itself, but is connected to the piston inside the pear, so I don`t know what made you laugh in my statement. ;)

Yep, I also saw corroded and cracked springs in the "pear" which resulted in "overloading"

Maybe you haven`t had such a case, but I did, the barbell is corroded inside and jams in the plastic guide sleeve and the spring is unable to rebound it, progressive corrosion is caused by water that gets inside through the hole that equalizes the pressure inside the bar from the barbell side, the guide sleeve is visible on the barbell in the photo below, so jamming the barbell inside the barbell is quite normal and not an extreme phenomenon at all:

Yes, it can be used to check the operation of the variable geometry, but you can also perform a Vag test in 011 Basic Settings or check the stroke range and possible resistances with your hand, and in the specific case described, we can only push the bar with pressure because we won`t be able to do anything with the vacuum since the bar is pulled in as far as it will go and rests against the stop on the turbocharger body.

Tomekb, I had a similar problem, the turbo had to be cleaned, after cleaning the car came back to life, but sometimes it didn`t drive properly. It turned out that they did not delete the error from my computer (error no. 17965). A short play with the vag and the pain is over. :D

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a recurring turbo boost control issue in an Audi A4 1.9TDI AJM, indicated by error code 17965 ("turbocharging regulation limit exceeded"). The user reports that after cleaning the steering wheels, the car initially improved but the problem returned. Responses suggest checking various components, including the N75 valve, vacuum hoses, and the variable geometry of the turbocharger. Several users emphasize the importance of inspecting for mechanical issues such as stuck components and clogged channels rather than focusing solely on vacuum leaks. Recommendations include using a manual vacuum pump for diagnostics and ensuring that any previous errors are cleared from the vehicle's computer system.
