How can you identify the type of light bulb (LED, standard, fluorescent) by measuring L and N?

    Hello,
I’m building a simple light switch with a triac-based dimming function. I’d like the dimming to work with standard incandescent bulbs and LEDs, but not with fluorescent tubes (due to their lifespan). Is there any way I can tell from the measurements what type of bulb is connected to the circuit, given that I only have access to the supply wires (L, N) connected to the bulb?
Measuring the power at the bulb isn’t a very good idea because a fluorescent tube can draw as much power as a 100W incandescent bulb when starting up (that’s just a guess – I haven’t checked this exactly), whilst in normal operation the power consumption is comparable to that of an LED.

To be honest, you haven’t really checked much – energy-saving bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps aren’t suitable for use with a dimmer at all. This is due to the nature of the load they represent.
