I’ve got a question – is there any other decent kit out there?
    I’m talking about a Z-Wave controller…

    I mean a /cheaper/ alternative to ‘Fibaro’ or ‘MiCasaVerde’…
Because I can see that these are mainly the ones available here in the country...

And my second question: do you need to take out a monthly subscription for all the available controllers to access them via the internet?

Specifically, the situation is this: I need to install a Danfoss system with ‘Living Connect’ radiator thermostats, and I want to be able to control it via the internet...

I need to get to grips with this quickly...

Has anyone had any experience with this? Or something similar?

A slightly cheaper alternative from Eldat: http://www.eldat.pl/pl
but I’m afraid it might not be capable of performing the functions described; you’ll need to have a read.
To access the control panel – whether it’s Fibaro or another brand – via the internet, you need to configure your router correctly. We manage our own internet connection and don’t pay anyone anything.

However, if it’s possible to run a cable, the options increase dramatically and the price goes down.

Well, I don’t really understand this paid access to the Z-Wave controller via the internet...
I mean, I get that the manufacturers have found an extra little source of cash...

But if this Z-Wave controller is connected to the Ethernet network inside the building, and the ports are forwarded on the firewall or router – surely there shouldn’t be a problem accessing Z-Wave from outside...?

Or am I missing something...? Could someone in the know clarify this for me? :D

That may well be the case – I’m drawing these conclusions from the Fibaro website, though they may be a bit hasty – that you really can’t do without a subscription fee. It’s set up as a so-called cloud service. Their server handles communication with the main controller, and that’s where you need to set up an account. If there’s no other way to access the visualisation interface (i.e. it’s not a website, but the manufacturer’s software), they can set up all sorts of subscription plans. However, it is always possible to set up a dedicated laptop running online that provides access to a remote desktop via, for example, TeamViewer.

SMS access isn’t necessary… You can do it all online…

The ones from MicasaVerde look interesting… at least from the description…
