    Hello.
I apologise in advance if this is not the right section - but I'm not quite sure where to put my question, so here goes:

I'm looking for a component (something like a relay / sequential switch) that would work as follows:
    6 to 8 channels
    - when a signal/pulse is given, channel 1 is switched on (the rest of the channels are switched off)
    - after another signal/pulse is given, channel 1 is switched off and channel 2 is switched on (the rest of the channels are switched off)
    - after another signal/pulse is given, channel 2 is switched off and channel 3 is switched on (the rest of the channels are switched off)
    - after another signal/pulse is given, channel 3 is switched off and channel 4 is switched on (the rest of the channels are switched off)
    - after another signal/pulse is given, channel 4 is switched off and channel 5 is switched on (the rest of the channels are switched off)
    ....
    ...
    ..
    .

Have you come across anything like this at all - is it available to buy, or do you have to think about your own construction?

An arrangement that fulfils such a task is a sliding register.
But with a ready-made solution it will be difficult.

If you like soldering, F&F Pabianice makes the BIS414 bistable relay in which you have a Johnson CD4017 counter and counts up to 3 there but in the circuit - off, 1 on 2 off, 2 on 1 off, 1 and 2 on. You can rework and you have it how you want it. Mains supply via a transformerless power supply, additional relays needed.
