    Hello,
What could be the cause of noise when the radiator is turned off? The radiator makes noise not only when the thermostat is turned off, but even when the valves are turned off.
I live on the top floor, I have vertical air vents installed.
It hums non-stop, sometimes less, sometimes more. Bleeding the radiators does not help.
Please advise what this may be caused by. Regards

    Hello.
If you have turned off the radiator and you can still hear the noise, it is not the radiator that is making the noise.
The source of the sound may be the turbulence of the liquid or the operation noise of the heating system equipment.
I assume that this sound reaches you through pipes, which are a very good acoustic conductor - and what you hear may be the sound of a pump operating, for example, in the basement.

Thank you for your answer. However, I am surprised that such miracles do not happen among my neighbors, and if it is the pump, it should probably be audible among others as well. But it is not.
Besides, nothing like this has happened in recent years...
An independent plumber claims that it may be due to faulty valves on the radiators and the lack of automatic air vents at the end of the radiator (they are only vertical).

There is a noise of water flowing through the closed valve.
It may be at your place, at your neighbor`s house or next door.

And can anything be done about it? Will reducing the pump speed help?

Do a test, remove the valve head and press the thermostat pin, e.g. with pliers, if the noise disappears, the head does not close, if it does not stop, the valve is leaking.

If there is really a humming noise coming from this closed radiator, just close it properly and it will stop.
If the valve is leaking, maybe it would be possible to turn off the radiator to zero?
If it is somewhere else, it would be best to reduce the pump efficiency or turn the radiator off a bit.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a user experiencing persistent noise from a radiator even when it is turned off, specifically on the top floor with vertical air vents. Responses suggest that the noise may not originate from the radiator itself but could be due to turbulence in the heating system or noise transmitted through pipes, possibly from a pump in the basement. The user expresses skepticism about the noise being from the pump, noting that neighbors do not report similar issues. A plumber indicated that faulty valves or the absence of automatic air vents might be contributing factors. Suggestions include testing the valve head for proper closure, addressing potential leaks, and possibly reducing pump speed to mitigate the noise.
