Hello. Is there a chance to change the username and computer name in the installed linux system, or only reinstallation?

In that case, it remains to rename the root username, which may not be so easy.

Why do you want to change the username? Write what you need it for and maybe there is a better and simpler solution for it.

In fact, it probably can. I need to read how to give an ordinary user the ability to use su.

I don't know what you want to achieve, but if you're not the regular user, then no outsider should have access to 'su'. What do you need it for? What do you want to do this way?

Basically I don't have anything great to achieve. I have installed lubuntu but I don't like the way the computer and user appear in the console. From what I've noticed, hostname the new name works, but only until the next system boot.

Solution to permanently rename the host:

    Change in:

    / etc / hostname
    / etc / hosts

    Reboot

Topic summary

Changing the username and computer name in an installed Linux system is possible without reinstallation. To change the hostname permanently, modifications should be made in the /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts files, followed by a system reboot. Renaming the root username is more complex and may require additional steps. Users are encouraged to clarify their reasons for changing usernames, as there may be simpler solutions, such as configuring sudo permissions for specific applications without altering the username.
