Someone on the forum had a similar problem but closed the post due to a successful (I think) service action:

Asus K50 AB - Does the service want to stretch me? The bios is not fully ACPI co

For me, the case looked exactly like in the above post and I also carried a laptop for service (one of the services at the Central Statistical Office in the Warsaw Stock Exchange). For now, I will not give the name.

My question is whether the order of steps taken by the website was correct:

    1) initial diagnosis when reporting a fault that overheating is a problem;
    2) maintenance of the cooling system (worth PLN 150) performed without consulting the client,
    3) in the absence of results, further tests that showed damage to the motherboard.
    4) providing the final valuation.

It is important because from the very beginning I informed the website that I would make a decision to repair depending on the price of the service. At the time when part of the service was performed without consulting before the final evaluation, the situation is unpleasant for both me and the service, because the service has incurred a cost of maintenance, which may not be needed if the final repair proves to be too expensive.

Therefore, I ask forum members: Is the service rightly doing the cooling system first and then diagnosing the main board fault? In other words, was the maintenance of the cooling system necessary to diagnose the motherboard?

In my opinion, no, but I prefer to ask specialists. Somehow it's hard to believe in the explanation of the service, that first he had to do the maintenance, and only later he could make a diagnosis.

Thank you in advance for every opinion :)

    solving a problem:
Fix blue screen issue during S4.

But S4 is a state of hibernation - hibernated this laptop and after that did not "get up"?

Good service never does anything for a fee without consulting the client. I can not imagine that I would start exchanging or repairing something without asking the customer or agreeing to it.
In this laptop there is a SIS chip and there may be problems with it and it is probably the reason.

As for the first two answers: In fact, I did not write about what I did before I gave my computer to the site. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version available on the manufacturer's website, version 220. But it did not bring results.

As for the situation when the computer did not get up:
    He was hibernating,
    He turned on properly.
However, due to the accidental disconnection of power supply, the battery discharged after about 2 minutes of proper operation (the battery is already very worn out and discharges so fast that the computer has no chance of hibernation, it simply cuts off the power after about 2 minutes without any warnings).
Then the computer no longer „

At first, I thought it was a matter of the operating system (Windows 8.1), so I tried to fix it first, then I decided to use the format without OS – Kill Disk (thankfully I had fresh backup of important files).
The small detail is that Windows 8, both in the case of attempts to start the installed system and attempts to install a new one, just turned off at some point (without showing a stable error window), then started from the beginning and in the loop. Only Windows 7 showed a stable window of error, which I attached. As I wrote, upgrading BIOS to version 220 did not help, so I gave up and returned to the site with which I have more problems …

    @ yang32, thanks for the review :)
And by the way, how much does it cost to exchange the replacement (parts + labor) of individual subassemblies: nb, sb, or the entire motherboard?

If this is the system that I am talking about, then the system 100 and labor 100, that is, 200, and for this cleaning, replacement of pastes and thermocouples for new ones is free for me.

    Thanks for the price estimate.

No, I did not check the RAM.
    For now only one service.
