    Hello.
While reading the topic, you probably thought: the phone has a camera :D
I want to connect the rear view camera via a cable to a smartphone or tablet. That's why I wonder if it is possible and if so, what adapters / inputs do I need. With this see I run to look for the equipment that meets my expectations :)

And these mysterious devices (because you haven't even given the name) have any ports, INPUT sockets.

It seems to me that if it were possible, every manufacturer of a tablet, smartphone would be booming and honking about it to the right and left (advertising their equipment) - and somehow silence ...

If the camera gives CVBS signal, you can use VideoServer to convert to IP stream and additionally Wi-Fi access point.

What's so strange about it? I take out the not very practical factory navigation and in its place I put a 7 "Android tablet. I connect (if technically possible) with the reversing camera. I have no idea what signal it gives. Due to the fact that the descriptions in the offers are very unprofessional and incomplete, it is difficult to verify which camera gives such a signal.

Weird, that's the way you want to do it.

You want to buy the whole set that will work 100% together, not some "bastards" that the seller assures ... that it will / must work - yeah, same as the HDMI-VGA cable - it must work too ... but why doesn't it work ...

I found equipment with AV IN, but with much weaker parameters and 5 "and it is definitely looking for 7"

    ALGA AN7004

I found something else like this:

It seems that if my (future) camera has a yellow cinch cable (rather cheap in the movie), I can connect it to this cinch adapter => USB and then only a cable for the tablet.

:) There remains a solution, how to force the tablet to automatically switch to the mode of displaying the image from the camera when I throw in reverse

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to buy a USB webcam with a USB extension cable and an old laptop / notebook without a battery?
It is enough to have a charger for the cigarette lighter socket.
The laptop stand is not expensive, you also have a recorder with a large HDD, up-to-date navigation, internet and the possibility of plugging in up to 36 cameras!

    Added after 1 [minutes]:

Ps. The USB camera will work with good resolution even at 13m!

It all depends on the configuration of the car. I'm satisfied with the factory radio and I'm not going to take it out and invest in something else. It would be pointless, since in the top panel of the dashboard (photo above) I have a retractable factory navigation screen that can be removed and inserted into another, more friendly, e.g. in the form of a tablet. I did so too. Unfortunately, I did not invest in a tablet which, according to the manufacturer of the adapter (from the YouTube video) is compatible with it and I chose a different brand, cheaper and here a problem arose, because the image from the camera does not want to be displayed on the tablet through this adapter. In the meantime, I bought a mirror with a screen and the image is displayed on it without any problems. I couldn't get my tablet to work with the camera.
Now I'm thinking about changing my camera for a better one. Unfortunately, there are no factory solutions for my car and those available on the market are universal Chinese products of low quality - that's what I have.
I was thinking about buying a factory camera (even from a different car) and fitting it to mine, but I don't know if it will work out. I'm afraid that these factory cameras need some converters because they usually have 4 pins and it is not known what voltage they run on.

Well, they have four - two power and two video ones, usually they work on a voltage of 12VDC.

I'll dig up the old topic a bit. I transform the tablet myself into an on-board computer for my car. As a tablet with ideal dimensions for me, I used the Galaxy Tab 7.0.

    My case:
You need to purchase an RCA-USB converter. (on alledrogo, just enter "RCA USB" and we have an expense of about PLN 50

I saw that my tablet supports the adapter. "USB adapter Galaxy Tab OTG card reader" - cost PLN 10.

To sum up - the cost in my case is PLN 60 and great satisfaction. Currently, I have an auxiliary car connected to the tablet, an OBD2 connector for bluetooth - so with the appropriate applications all the parameters of the car, as well as the tablet buttons.
This is so much better than the original. :)

This can be done wirelessly, there are modules or ready-made cameras that, after WIFI, give an image to a smartphone or tablet Link

There are better solutions than connecting with a cable, there are reversing cameras with a wifi module that can be connected to any smartphone and the redundant one will be found in every home.

As for connecting other cameras to a smartphone or tablet, the problem is that these devices would have to have an application written by the manufacturer for each camera. For example, I recently bought an endoscope camera and only the manufacturer's application works with the camera properly and there are a lot of applications for USB cameras in the google play store.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around connecting a rear view camera with a cinch output to a smartphone or tablet. Users express skepticism about the feasibility of such connections, citing the lack of manufacturer support and compatibility issues. Some suggest using RCA-USB converters and highlight the importance of ensuring the camera outputs a CVBS signal. Others propose alternative solutions, such as using a 2DIN radio with rear view camera support or opting for wireless cameras that transmit images via Wi-Fi. The conversation also touches on the challenges of finding compatible devices and the need for specific applications to interface with various camera types.
