    Hello, the Stihl MS 231 saw reacts to regulation;
    - by turning the screw L the mixture is enriched, when I tighten it, I am doing more poor at idling,
    - by turning the screw H the maximum speed increases when I unscrew the smaller one, but the saw can not pass the entire regulation because after a while it cuts off as if it would cut off the ignition, adding gas several times, and "buuuu" dies.
    What to consider in this case? The saw has 2 years or is there a ignition coil or dirty carburetor and diaphragms?
    To tell the truth, I would go to the damaged ignition coil, but how to check it? I can not do it by trial and error because some are too expensive to play "maybe this, maybe that".
    Greetings.

    How old is this saw and how much did it work? Maybe it already has worn out shaft sealers and this regulation does not give anything, because it looks good, but it's not good with used sealants.

    Start with the fun of repairing the cheapest option - check the candle, disassemble the carburettor, see the state of the membranes, spray with air or some kind of cleaner, etc. If it does not help - the coil. Fire up in the dark ;) several times I had this in this model that at high speed the spark jumped over the coil. Visible when the light goes out. I tried to pour various glues, put in the oven but "usually" did not help.

    Gaźnik, very ungrateful, there is often a looseness on the gas axle, a developed accelerator piston.

    Here the colleague is very right. A crude carburettor in repair. You can get a plunger yourself in Stihlu - maybe a colleague has a service number.

    I suggest you start as I begin with a saw with such symptoms. First, check the condition of the fuel filter (including blowing it), I pour out the fuel and refuel it fresh, the candle replacing for sure, then I examine the integrity of the machine, at once this test allows to check whether the saw is not obliterated, if the machine is tight the carburetor main adjustment. If this does not work, check whether the tank breather is in working order and the fuel line is free of damage, when the symptoms occur, I proceed to investigate whether the carburetor needle valve is holding (I carry out the test at 0.8 bar) obviously does not work, I disassemble the carburettor, check the state of the membranes , I clean the carburetor for this agent, blow out the air under low pressure, check if the individual nozzles have a flow. I put a carburetor (it should work). Unfortunately, as it still does not work, I am looking for a reason directly in the propulsion unit. If there is still a problem, it breaks my hands, I throw a few epithets, I approach her the other day, I cuddle :D And I am looking for a reason.

    PS. 231 there is no accelerator piston.

    I apologize for misleading - 231 there is no accelerator piston .. Rysiu said well ... :) And Arsa's colleague is good at only 99% of people who write on the forum do not have a Vacum pump for leak testing. I have but I use only to test the tightness of fuel lines .. If I had to clothe with the machine, I would do one day and "Drink" Whiskey so I like something to earn. :)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around troubleshooting issues with the Stihl MS 231 chainsaw, particularly concerning idle mixture regulation, ignition coil performance, and carburetor maintenance. Users suggest starting with basic checks such as inspecting the spark plug, cleaning the carburetor, and ensuring the fuel filter is functioning properly. There are mentions of potential problems with worn shaft sealers, the integrity of the fuel lines, and the carburetor's needle valve. The ignition coil is also highlighted as a possible culprit, with advice to check for spark in low light conditions. Overall, the consensus emphasizes a systematic approach to diagnosing and resolving the chainsaw's performance issues.
