Good morning,
It has an "distributed" Ethernet network on one floor of a tenement house. The cables between the main switch and individual office rooms (distribution switches) are about 200m. We are at the stage of organizing the server room, currently the cables are connected directly to the main switch, but we would like to move the cabinet. Unfortunately, the cables are too short to reach directly.
In such a situation, is it permissible to terminate the cables with sockets in the wall and connect the main switch using extension cords (patchcords?).
Do you have any experience with this type of solutions - is it used in practice or is it avoided?
Should one take into account signal losses in such a situation?
What is the failure rate for this type of connection?
