    Gentlemen ...

What do I need to buy to fix the volume control on my Audi Chorus radio ...
Typical symptom ... when you try to turn down or volume up the volume, it goes to max.

In addition, I have one vertical stack out of order ... is it the display's fault or some layout? possibly cold solder?

You need to check the connections.

The display is rather a connection problem and the potentiometer is a processor. Because it's a digital potentiometer :)

I hook up on the subject. I have a similar problem with volume control on Symphony II radio. Ie turning the volume knob instead of turning the volume down or doing what I want.

To start with, clean or replace the pulser in Symphony II.

check if the adjustments of other values (bass, treble, fader) also behave this way. if so, then the pulser.

Audi concert 1 and chorus 1 - processor problem. Symphony and newer radios is a problem with the pulser or potentiometer :) That's all in the subject.

This and I will get on the topic, by the way.

Radio Concert I (cassette) of the A6 C5 starts automatically.
After removing the key, the knob extended radio after some time can turn on and play itself.
Knob inserted, problem not present (not noted)

    What could be the reason?

The problem appeared alone. Nothing was altered, connected, removed (as far as the radio itself)

Well, nothing will change. If the radio does not turn on when the volume control knob is pressed and when it is turned on sometimes it turns on by itself, THIS may mean leakage or poor contact of the switch built into the pulse generator. There is a switch in the pulser which, after sliding the bar (knob), short-circuits the switching circuit and the radio plays. If you turn off the ignition, the radio will turn off with the car. If there is poor contact on the switch built into the pulse generator (wear, dirt, oil, moisture) the radio in the extended knob position will turn on automatically when the resistance rises above the switch-off threshold and falls back above the switch-on threshold. Often such radio damage occurs through amateur attempts to repair the volume control by mindless pouring with ip, oil, wd or other crap on the pulser (encoder, jog ... how call it so called). Such a radio turns on for 1 hour while the vehicle is closed, the ignition off or immobilized. It can (rarely, because rarely but sometimes) also turn off for a while during the road (these are extreme cases, when everything is already rickety, it can only be replaced).
