Hello. I have a problem knocking in my focus mk1 1.8tdci around the timing. It does not always occur but in 90% of the time. I hear only at low speed, it seems to me that when crushing stops and when turning up the speed. After unscrewing the oil plug, it does not intensify and it can be heard more clearly from the bottom of the engine. Maybe someone had a similar sound and solved the puzzle?

It is rather no riddle but you have to look at the right places. Check the crankshaft pulley, alternator pulley and V-belt tensioner. But it will probably be a pulley.

Well, the point is that the car was at the mechanic and said that the pulley was rigid, and that the rest of the equipment also does not make suspicious noises ...

Good advice change this mechanic. Started the engine without the accessory belt? He rattles there so much that I think the elephant will step on his ear, that he has not traced what it is. We can beg ourselves at a distance. If you have the tools and the concept then start checking the elements one by one so that you can exclude something. In addition to this sound, something else is happening to the engine?

Remove the V-ribbed belt and if it is still silent, something from the implement and if not, keep looking. 1.8 tdci hhhmmmm good luck

Like nothing from the accessories. It kind of tugs the engine as I try to maintain higher revs, e.g. 2 thousand. is it possible for the injector to clatter, because it seems to me that when driving, when it releases gas and brakes with the engine, it also stops, and when I accelerate, it clicks a little? I hope this is not a pan, the more that it seems to go down as the turnover increases. Still thinking about the timing tensioner?

Connecting rod sleeve. I used to do the same. He knocked like that.

After an uneven fight and replacement of the roller, the alternator clutch and the intermediate wheel began to clatter, but more deaf and not metallic. I drove a little, did about 300km for a few days and as if it stopped completely, but sometimes I think something else is still heard. Anyway, there is no specialist who would say "to exchange" pointing his finger ...

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a knocking noise in a Ford Focus mk1 1.8 TDCi engine, primarily occurring at low speeds and during acceleration. Initial suggestions include checking the crankshaft pulley, alternator pulley, and V-belt tensioner, with a recommendation to remove the V-ribbed belt to isolate the noise source. The author reports that the mechanic found the pulley rigid but did not identify the issue. Further insights suggest the possibility of injector clatter or timing tensioner problems. A user mentions a similar experience with a connecting rod sleeve causing knocking sounds. After some repairs, another user notes a reduction in noise but remains uncertain about lingering issues.
