Dear friends, I would like to know what SSD for M.2 socket I can mount - M.2 SATA or M.2 PCIe. Asus ROG GL552VW laptop. The information available on the network is not precise. The specification on the Asus website is supposedly written PCIe, while on the internet users also mount M.2 SATA.

    Thanks in advance.

If the manufacturer says that the slot supports PCIe, and the SATA drives also work, it means that you can install both types of disks.
Check also the physical construction of the socket, so that there are no surprises. Open the laptop and look carefully at the socket. Then compare with the drawing:

The problem is still different: whether the disk will work after the NVMe or AHCI protocol, because the fact that it is a PCIe M.2 drive does not mean that the socket supports the NVMe protocol. Then there are no profits compared to M.2 SATA.
The problem with this series of laptops is that from what I've read, newer ones support the NVMe protocol, and older ones do not.

I have no way of knowing what the socket looks like - I do not have a laptop physically. I read the NVMe protocol that it is not supported. The problem for me is the choice of the disk. Should it be with two gaps in the rail or with one (please forgive this simplification).

I also think that this disk is suitable and will work.

Are there different versions of this model with an M.2 socket?

There is still a shorter M.2 disk, but your model will come in larger

    I mean SATA / PCIe

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the compatibility of M.2 SSDs with the Asus ROG GL552VW laptop, specifically whether to choose M.2 SATA or M.2 PCIe drives. Users confirm that both types can be installed if the manufacturer specifies PCIe support, but caution is advised regarding the protocol (NVMe vs. AHCI) that the socket supports. There is uncertainty about the physical characteristics of the M.2 socket, with suggestions to verify the socket's design. The Samsung EVO SSD is recommended as a suitable option, and there is mention of different versions of the laptop that may have varying M.2 socket configurations.
