I can't do anything on this laptop right now. Does not respond. The answer to your question is: no, I did not try to uninstall it through safe mode, because there was no such need before.

download and save to the desktop a special tool to uninstall McAfee anti-virus: VSCleanupTool.exe double-click the file VSCleanupTool.exe to run it, follow the instructions

CTRL + Alt + Delete => task manager => processes => terminate process. So give it a try

Then turn it off, restart in safe mode and try to uninstall the problematic program.
