    Hello all
I would like to be able to save my home made projects right at my workplace. I am currently using a 2.5 drive and an ARDATA bay. Cool solution, but it starts boring me.

At work I have an orange segemcom wifi-11n fast 2704 router. I am thinking about two options. The first is to save directly to the computer, but then it would have to remain asleep and be constantly connected to the network.

The second option is a LAN network drive connected directly to the router. Then the power would be connected only to the disk and router .. It would be left to connect the disk with the computer.

Minimum disk requirements. Ideally 2.5 inches of 100 GB capacity is enough for me.

As you can see, my knowledge on this subject is based on assumptions, hence the request for help and guidance on the right track.

    greetings
    Marcin

Currently the drive is connected with usb2 or usb3?
What large files are you saving?
What MegaByte / Sec transfer do you expect?

What's the internet like at work? upload? download?
What's the internet like at home? upload? download?

When you work at home and drive at work it
    - disk write speed = MIN (dom_net_upload, praca_net_download)
    - speed of reading from disk = MIN (dom_net_download, praca_neta_upload)

    e.g. work 20/2 mbs, house 10/1 mbs.

    therefore disk write - 1mbs, (0.16MB / s :) , 2mbs disk read (0.32MB / s)

USB2 disk is 20-30MB / s write / read, so please think carefully on remote / network disk over WAN / internet.

It does not need high parameters. Files with programs for a CNC milling machine rarely exceed 1 MB. Sometimes the documentation weighs a bit but it is max 20 MB and I will not send it.

The drive can be connected to USB 3.0 because I have free ports of this type.

Comp at home, hard drive at work, I definitely recommend a VPN home-work connection, and a NAS network drive for this, or a computer + USB drive permanently connected.

If it's such a small size, why don't you send it by e-mail?

The best and easiest way is as he wrote @bogiebog , i.e. the NAS server (e.g. the popular zyxel nsa310 - transfers max ~ 30MB / s) you connect to the router, redirect the port to ftp and set the constant domain to noip.org or something similar.
Access to the disk from the internal network via samba and from the outside you have ftp.
    Cost ~ 250 PLN

If you already have a USB drive, you can put this sagecom in the bridge, and then set up an ordinary router with a USB port (e.g. TP-Link WR843N - transfers max ~ 10MB / s) and turn on the ftp and samba server on it, Here you also have a gate and you can upload gargoyle to it and make yourself a simple VPN on OpenVPN, in gargoyle you can still set up a free and not requiring activation ddns noip.pl client.
Cost ~ 100 PLN + devoting time to education and configuration.

The current sagemcom has a USB but it is only available locally.

You can still use the computer while it is on and connect to it via TeamViewer, here the cost is only the power of the computer on.

    there are many ways

    Not a bad idea, actually.
Alternatively, purchase the Premium account options (larger attachments, no account capacity limit, security, etc.).

    Instead of email, xxx-drive, google-drive or one-drive.

I trust Polish e-mail addresses more than disk spaces that do not even have one server in Poland.
And since these are business matters, it is better not to get the Americans in the hands of it ...

    Before uploading, encrypt it.

When someone encrypts something, he has something to hide ... - after all, every NSA employee knows it :D .

Multiple ways to upload / move a file, fear of "Americans". Maybe instead of a hard drive carry a "small" flash drive attached to the keys?
With these sizes, 32 GB is exaggerated, and the transfer compared to the neostrad connection (max 20 / 1Mbit / s) is much better.

Or dump files directly on the phone (smartphone to its memory card) - most phones already have LTE, so in the event of a problem with connecting the phone itself, you will be able to quickly "roll" the file to the destination.

Many ideas - but here the author himself has to ;) show us a choice, then you will also be able to think about possible problems and try to eliminate them (unfortunately each solution always has some "but" ...).

However, I recommend the cloud for this. Pros:
    - availability from all over the world
    - no complicated configuration
    - data security (not including surveillance)

icloud, onedrive, googledrive etc (probably the easiest google drive)
