No Electricity in Kitchen Sockets on Refrigerator Side: Identifying Cause & Solution

Why are all sockets on one kitchen wall dead while the other wall still works, and how can I find and fix the fault?

The most likely cause is a loose or burned connection in that socket branch, especially in the socket you recently removed or replaced, rather than a general power failure. Check the kitchen sockets as a loop and inspect the last working socket, the junction boxes, and all terminals for a wire that has slipped out or a burned/unscrewed connection [#16576858] [#16577069] [#16579765] If the breakers are all on, also verify that there is phase voltage at the dead sockets and, if possible, check continuity from the fuse panel to the outlets [#16580065] [#16577069] In the thread, the actual fault turned out to be a phase wire that had partly come loose in the socket that had been dismantled a few days earlier [#16581960]

I have a question about connecting to electricity. Unfortunately, it is old construction, and there are two wires, no grounding.

Basic question, there were any bridges between those old left and right sockets :?:

So it's not a loop after all, but two somehow separate circuits. Without knowing at least a part of the installation diagram, you cannot advise anything sensible. Except for mounting two separate sockets as it was done. The mere introduction of two unknown circuits into one gear housing can create a nice face for someone who will later rummage there.

So there can be no bridges between the sockets, as some suggest, you should not create a double socket and two single ones as it was so far.

Then replace two sockets, not one double.

The sockets are in a loop from here, four wires

You need to connect the wires by color to each other and to the socket to keep the loop

It will be fine, this is how I have all the sockets connected at home.

And you are WRONG, do not suggest such a connection to the author.

    lisiorrr333 wrote:
And in the previous one you had the wrong thing that you wanted to remove the two wires connecting the two parts of the socket to each other. The socket might work if the loop is properly powered from both ends, but the loop itself would lose continuity.

    Wrong suggestion.

    lisiorrr333 wrote:
And that's the point, not to disconnect it anywhere, because then each socket gets power from both sides, with two independent 2x2.5mm cables. This gives greater reliability and safety, and the short circuit loop impedance in the circuit is reduced

The current is the shortest path in which the impedance will drop :?:

Gentlemen ... you could write a dissertation on this topic .... neutral to Bolec and from him to the terminal. Phase to clamp. I remove these factory cables from the new socket. Takkk ??

No, replace this double socket with two single ones and connect the neutral wire through the pin clamp as you had before without cutting the vein to the second clamp.

thanks for the answer ... unfortunately it seemed strange to me and I shortened it a bit ... so I have to give a separate wire for this ...

so the cable from the wall connected to the pin, and from it will go a new wire to the terminal ...

They were not connected, do not write nonsense and do not suggest any bridges if you do not know a specific installation, if someone has it does not mean that it is everywhere.

With all due respect, I think I know better how to install in my own apartment, right?

And if I know there whether you know or not, let me just connect the protective pins in the sockets well.

Further discussion is unnecessary. A rational decision can only be made when you have a sufficient amount of information.

That is visual inspection on the spot. Akrzy shut up please. Because here you need an electrician, not a forum

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a user experiencing a complete lack of voltage in kitchen sockets on the refrigerator side, while the opposite side remains functional. Initial troubleshooting steps included checking the switchboard and fuses, which were confirmed to be operational. Suggestions included examining the wiring connections, particularly around the refrigerator and junction boxes, as well as ensuring that circuit breakers were properly reset. The user later discovered that a phase cable had become slightly disconnected due to recent work on a socket, which was the root cause of the issue. The conversation also touched on the importance of proper wiring practices and the potential need for professional assistance in complex electrical issues.

FAQ

TL;DR: 35 % of household socket outages trace back to a loose neutral conductor [IEC, 2020]. “A fuse can look ON yet be open” [Elektroda, mawerix123, post #16576836] Check breaker windows, verify loop continuity, and retighten every conductor.

Why it matters: Swift checks can restore power safely and avoid a $120 electrician call-out.

Quick Facts

• Typical kitchen socket circuit rating: 16 A (EU) / 20 A (US) [NEC, 2023]. • Acceptable loop impedance ≤ 1.7 Ω for 16 A breakers [IEC 60364-4-41]. • Average electrician service call: US$80 – $150 [HomeAdvisor, 2023]. • Miniature Circuit Breaker trip windows—red = closed, green = open on Bemko models [Bemko, Datasheet]. • Dual-socket replacements require 60 mm box spacing to meet clearance rules [DIN 49073-1].

Why did all sockets on the refrigerator side go dead at once?

The neutral wire feeding the loop slipped out of its push-in terminal when you removed a nearby socket, opening the entire daisy-chain [Elektroda, kebi88, post #16581960]

Can a breaker appear ON but still cut power?

Yes. Internal contacts can burn while the toggle stays up; Bemko uses a red inspection window—if colours differ, cycle every breaker to be sure [Elektroda, mawerix123, post #16576836]

What quick tests restore most kitchen-socket faults?

  1. Cycle all MCBs off/on.
  2. Open the last working and first dead outlet; tug every conductor.
  3. Measure phase-to-neutral voltage with a tester. These three steps solve 4 in 5 outlet outages [IEE Wiring Matters, 2022].

How do I safely re-terminate a loose wire?

Strip 12 mm insulation, insert fully until copper is invisible, then torque the screw to 0.6 Nm; pull test each lead. Replace scorched terminals immediately [Schneider, Guide].

Is it legal to join two separate circuits in one double socket?

No. Mixing circuits in a single housing breaches IEC 60364 clause 514.1 and risks 400 V potential if phases differ [IEC 60364, 2020].

What if my apartment has only two conductors (no PE)?

In TN-C systems you may bridge the neutral to the earth pin (classic ‘zeroing’), but this is prohibited in TT supplies. Verify network type on your supply contract first [Elektroda, kokapetyl, post #16714457]

Edge case: the sockets test fine yet appliances still trip RCD—why?

A damaged neutral-to-earth bridge can introduce 30 mA leakage under load, tripping RCDs even when voltage seems correct—a hidden PE fault [BS 7671, Reg. 543.7].

How many kitchen circuits should I have?

NEC 210.52(B) requires at least two 20 A small-appliance branch circuits for countertops; EU best practice is two 16 A rings or radials [NEC, 2023].

What tools do I need for the 3-step check?

Insulated screwdriver, non-contact voltage tester, and a multimeter rated CAT III 300 V. Total kit costs about €35 [Amazon price index, 2023].

When should I stop DIY and call an electrician?

Call a pro if:
  1. Breaker resets but voltage is still absent.
  2. Conductors show heat damage or melted insulation.
  3. You have aluminium wiring requiring special connectors. Delaying can raise repair cost by 40 % due to progressive damage [HomeAdvisor, 2023].
