Hello, I have a question, is it possible to install Windows 7 from the Windows XP level only on the same disk where XP is. Heard something about changing files to Windows.old from old windows. But I'm afraid that the whole installer is still running Windows XP and may format it.

Has anyone had something like this and will it work?

If you are sure that you want to change the system and you have all data secured, format and reinstall it. You will get rid of unnecessary "garbage" from the previous system.

My data is secured on another computer, I mean whether it will install it on the system that is running.

The installer of seven will restart the computer.

So I can install it like this? I remind you, Windows Xp is running in the background.
As something, the intalator comes from a pendrive.

Can you develop your flash of "intellect"? Each installer will restart the computer.

Of course you can. Nobody will forbid you. Just do not write here later that you are running out of disk space. And you have some "garbage" on the disk.

Of course you are right. After copying the installation files and rebooting, XP will not load because the Win7 installer will take over.
@ maurycy123 I suggest you read with understanding.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 using the same disk. Users confirm that it is possible to install Windows 7 while Windows XP is running, as the installer will take over upon reboot. It is advised to secure data beforehand and consider formatting the disk to eliminate residual files from the previous operating system. The installation process involves using a USB flash drive for the installer, and once initiated, Windows XP will not load as the Windows 7 installer takes control.
