    Hello,
    BMW E46, 316i, 1.9 - petrol, 1999.
Two weeks ago, the car refused to obey me - it turns, doesn't start. Connecting the computer and EWS synchronization error. I bought the diagnostic cable and installed INPA. After a few hours of hassle I was able to connect to DDE. The error still occurs, it cannot be deleted and when I press + F6 I have the following message:
    BMW E46 316i 1.9 (1999) - Can't Synchronize EWS, INPA Error & Reset Issues, Need Professional Help
And when I press RESET, it pops up:
    BMW E46 316i 1.9 (1999) - Can't Synchronize EWS, INPA Error & Reset Issues, Need Professional Help

I am asking for help from professionals and if someone from my area who finds help on the spot is found, I can even get to the place because I would not like to tow it.

With this INPA, this synchro works very well for EWS 3. You can do it differently by resetting the synchro in EWS, but for this you need to read the processor from EWS and save it with properly crafted content, then it will synchronize itself.

So I'm at the starting point. In that case, as soon as possible and easiest to start the car so that it does not happen another week in the bushes because my vacation ends and my wife does not give life?

If you have something to read the contents of the processor, I see no problem. Alternatively, find someone in the area with the programprorm xprog-m. In the worst case, send ews to someone who does.

I found a specialist in automotive electronics. He arrived with a specific program and after three minutes the car talked.

After four months, the problem recurred. EWS has become out of sync after a long journey. I can manage alone with a laptop and INPY, but it turned out that I had something mixed up in the communication cable and a friend fixed it for me.
Interestingly, the problem returns every time I go without putting out the engine more than 50 - 60 kilometers. After switching off and attempting to fire, you need to synchronize. If I drive 40 kilometers and turn off the engine for a while, I can drive another 40 and nothing happens. One of the symptoms that there will be a problem is the intensive clicking of the relay in EWS after throwing the Parking position on the engine switched off or off. EWS generates a POWER-ON-RESET error with every click of the relay and every second, third click the Key Code Error. But as I mentioned, this only happens with a longer ride (over an hour or over 50 - 60 km.). The problem stops after about 10 minutes of standstill (the relay stops crazy). I know that the best solution is to remove EWS from DME, but I will try to replace EWS (cost PLN 15).
Does any of your colleagues have any ideas why this is happening?

Today I got in the car, put the key in the ignition and turned on the ignition without firing. 10 minutes of calm and the banging of the relay began. I connected the computer, immediately 13 errors about resetting and the same about the wrong code from the key. Of course, the number of errors increased with each click on the relay. I will do the same number with the service key to rule out a problem with the key code. If it will be the same, I am ordering some art for art today.

I bought EWS (used) on a popular ale portal. When connecting it instead of the current one, the laptop communicates with it, while when trying to sync with DME, it reports to me an error that DME does not see any EWS and synchronization is not possible. After a while, I have a message to install the module and try again (quick translation from German). Of course, the car does not try to start. After programming the keys and inserting the key in the ignition, EWS does not read the key code (sees that something is sitting there, but even the key number does not read.
Damaged? Am I doing something wrong?
I put in the old EWS, it was synchronized and for now it is driving.

I read, watched a few movies and I know it can't be done. EWS needs to be reprogrammed. Until I invest, I will end up getting EWS out of DME. I could do it right away, but I wanted it to work as it should.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a 1999 BMW E46 316i 1.9 that is experiencing synchronization issues with the EWS (Electronic Immobilizer System), preventing the car from starting. The owner attempted to diagnose the problem using INPA software but encountered persistent synchronization errors. Suggestions from other users included resetting the EWS synchronization by reading the processor or finding a local specialist with the necessary programming tools. The owner eventually found a professional who resolved the issue temporarily, but the problem recurred after long drives. Further troubleshooting revealed potential issues with the communication cable and the need for reprogramming the EWS. The owner also faced challenges with a used EWS module that failed to synchronize with the DME (Digital Motor Electronics).
