    Hello. The problem concerns the Opel Astra H, 1.6 16V 85kW 116KM, 2007, mileage 280 thousand.
About two weeks ago it started to heat up. A fan was turning on all the time. I, as a blonde, didn't think of even lifting the mask. The "Aladdin's lamp" indicator appeared. Car for a tow truck, for service - the entire radiator to be replaced - cost PLN 612. After two days the "check engine" light came on - again the car to the service. After checking the whole car, the mechanic stated that the clutch was running out and the car needed to be repaired, because I might not drive even a few km. It is true that earlier another mechanic said that the clutch "slips", the car is losing power, but he suggested replacing it next year. In addition to the clutch, the service also found other faults, but there are so many things that I don't know what to do first. The car was checked a month ago and according to the mechanic everything was ok, and after checking in the service it turns out that on a good day I have to spend PLN 2700 on "minor" repairs + about PLN 1500 clutch replacement.
Hence my question - is it worth replacing it all and driving this car? Maybe it's better to sell without a refill and buy something newer with a lower mileage? I apologize in advance for any mistakes and a laconic description, but - as you can see - I do not know about cars.

Do you think you will not buy another one with minor defects?
Change for 4 200 PLN? I do not know in what condition it is and how much is this car worth, but I think that putting about half of its value in it is pointless.
Currently, the vehicles are manufactured in such a way that they slowly "fall apart" immediately after the warranty, the mileage limit is approx. km. then the "piggy bank" begins.

Maybe change the service. Because it can be done a little cheaper. And 4200 is not a lot. In a newer car, the same clutch with a dual mass wheel can cost. You want to have a roadworthy car is still a small expense.

I just add that if the car is serviced on an ongoing basis, there are no such surprises later.

For this, let's face it, nobody sells a car without a reason 99% of advertisements is always something to do. You don't have any serious defects in this car, most of them are just consumables. So I would do and drive calmly, probably for another 2 years.

I would go with this printout to another workshop with a good opinion so that they would check everything that was written on this protocol whether it really was for replacement. I run the workshop myself and sometimes a woman comes with a crash worth a penny and the list of defects to be repaired is two A4 sheets, and in fact 1/4 is to be done. Don't be fooled

    Something stinks here:
    - why the oil filter itself should be replaced?
-All 4 springs? at a glance you can see if the car is "not sitting", standing evenly, etc.
-exhaust, do you hear any leaks?
    - shock absorber mounting kits, as the name suggests, are exchanged with them, not with the springs.

I suggest you go to another, more reliable workshop

I am aware of this. I went to the mechanic every 4 months on average to check if everything was ok. Actually before each further route. All the time I heard that there will be "this or that" to be done soon, but nothing is on the cito. I was checking the car just to avoid such large one-off costs.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues faced by a 2007 Opel Astra H with a 1.6 16V engine, including overheating, a persistent fan operation, and a "check engine" light activation. The user reports a recent radiator replacement costing PLN 612 and subsequent diagnosis of a failing clutch, which another mechanic had previously noted as "slipping." Participants suggest considering a different service for potentially lower repair costs and emphasize the importance of regular maintenance to avoid unexpected expenses. Concerns are raised about the validity of the extensive list of repairs suggested by the service, with recommendations to seek a second opinion from a reputable workshop.
