Hello! I want to connect 3 cells in series to power a metro LED strip, 3 cells, pcm system, tape and charger. My question is about the links themselves. I always use 18650 cells, but now I need batteries a bit smaller because I have to fit in 15cm pvc tubes and 3 18650 cells are just too long. Looking for I found 14500 cells, are they just as good as 18650 cells?

What do you mean "good"? As for the capacity, 14,500 as smaller in size have a corresponding smaller capacity. However, the quality parameters do not depend on the size only from the manufacturer. The most reliable links are those of Panasonic or Samsung. Certainly there is no point in buying no-name cells for a few PLN each - it's a shame about the money.

Everyone always says that 18650 cells are the best, the most durable and the most resistant to everything. As for the 14500 cells, I've never had them with them and I see that they are much smaller in capacity and on the Allegro cells with a capacity of 3000 mAh are just no name and they do not have that capacity but what can they probably have?

I don't know who says that, but I assure you that he doesn't understand what he is saying.

Presumably it all depends on the producer's grace. ;) And seriously, it's a lottery - there are cells with a declared capacity of up to 5000 mAh with barely 10% of what is on paper. As I wrote - look for Samsung or Panasonic cells - these are certain products.

I also think that the best way would be to connect the links side by side than one after the other. I did something similar as lighting in a wine cellar room where there is no electricity. I used the LED strips with gomarplus.pl and your ingenuity.

The size of the cell has no effect on its quality. 14500 cells will be as good quality as 18650, only the capacity will drop.
It is important to buy links from reliable manufacturers.
The "noname" cell will definitely not have a larger capacity than a branded cell. What is written in the auction descriptions on various portals can be inserted between cartoons.

18650 is just the size of the link - 18mm in diameter and 65.0mm in length. The same applies to 14500 - diameter 14mm and length 50.0mm.

The quality of the cell depends on the manufacturer. Don't be fooled by Allegro tales with capacities of 8000mAh etc.
The highest capacity so far for 18650 is about 3500mAh.

Topic summary

The discussion centers on the suitability of 14500 lithium-ion cells compared to 18650 cells for powering a metro LED strip within a 15cm PVC tube. Users highlight that while 14500 cells are smaller, they typically have lower capacity than 18650 cells. The quality of the cells is emphasized as being more dependent on the manufacturer rather than the size. Recommended brands include Panasonic and Samsung, with caution advised against purchasing no-name cells that may not deliver their advertised capacity. The consensus is that while 14500 cells can be of good quality, they will not match the capacity of 18650 cells, which are generally regarded as more durable and reliable.
