    Hello

I have a very difficult problem to solve due to the size of the player on YouTube. Until now it was like this:

Resizing YouTube Player Window: Dealing with 20-30% Size Reduction Across Browsers

And now it is done like this:

Resizing YouTube Player Window: Dealing with 20-30% Size Reduction Across Browsers

In other words, the player's size decreased by 20-30%. I don't know if I clicked somewhere or pressed any key combination or what, but that's how it was done. I immediately say that this is not a problem with enlarging / reducing the page, I checked it already and it is not from that. It's the same in every browser, only when I log out or log in to my other YouTube account is the player window is normal (large). When I log in to the first account, the window turns small again. Clearing cookies does nothing. On another computer (clean system) it's the same. On another computer (also a clean system) it is the same. On other internet access it is the same. Nor is this a problem with cinema mode or anything. This is a problem with the size of the player window in "normal" mode, without zooming, without cinema mode, without fullscreen. The size of the player window is "drawn" from the account from YouTube because when I enter the code of the page I have in the line written:

Yes, but that's not it, because it has not decreased by zooming in / out in the browser but it has decreased through YouTube. Anyway, filming doesn't do anything - it's still a small window.

Also gives nothing. After entering these commands in the console, the window is still small. Anyway, I have recently tried it too.

I wrote, although it is the second time I write there. I doubt that the increase in my number of clone submissions will affect Google finally taking care of it.

    EDIT
When I enter the console from the YouTube account to which a small player window has been assigned, I have:

And when I enter from another account with a normal window, I have this:

If you use the YT account on the mobile version, maybe there is a problem somewhere here that saved such settings. It could be a tablet, phone or even TV could mix up the settings.

He tried to clean out temporary files or restore browser settings where you have used this YT account.

I used YouTube on many other devices (e.g. friends) but I logged out later. Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to clean temporary files there. Either way, I don't think that's the reason.

It looks like the settings have been saved to your account, which is why the same problem occurs everywhere.

Rather, you will not do anything about it yourself, since there is no suitable option to change it.

Well, and Google does not respond to requests. I tried to report it to my company and I was even called by a lady but said that she did not do it and that it was not possible to pass the case on or to the appropriate department.

Contacting Google support is very difficult. You can submit only through the opinion or on the forum https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/youtube Only that in this forum no one will help you in such a "complicated" case, because no one knows anything and you what they know they don't have contact with each other. There are no phone numbers, nothing at all.

So advise the user alone. For an IT specialist it's probably just a matter of clicking on an option.

Google has removed the problem after many of my reports. I waited half a year. I reported the matter both through the opinion (in Polish and English) and through the Google forum. It's best to write that they remove the so-called "flexy mode". I wrote this way:

Please remove the flexy player mode from my YouTube account.
Please remove the player flexy mode from my YouTube account.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around a user experiencing a 20-30% reduction in the YouTube player size across multiple browsers and devices, which appears to be linked to their specific YouTube account settings rather than browser zoom levels. Various troubleshooting steps were suggested, including using keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + 0) and checking dynamic player size settings, but these did not resolve the issue. The user noted that the problem persists even after clearing cookies and using different systems. It was suggested that the issue might be related to saved settings in the user's account, and contacting Google support was recommended, although the user expressed frustration with the lack of effective responses. Ultimately, the user reported that the problem was resolved after multiple reports to Google, specifically requesting the removal of the "flexy mode" for the player.

FAQ

TL;DR: This is an account-level YouTube layout flag; the confirmed fix came after 6 months. “Please remove the flexy player mode” is the exact request that worked. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17388705]

Why it matters: It helps you fix a shrunken YouTube player fast without wasting time on browser zoom or cache.

Quick-Facts

Quick Facts

Why did my YouTube player suddenly get smaller across all browsers?

Your account likely has YouTube’s “flexy” dynamic sizing flag enabled. It follows you across browsers and devices. “It looks like the settings have been saved to your account.” You can’t toggle this in standard settings. Ask Google to remove the flag from your account. [Elektroda, Kolobos, post #17147848]

Is this caused by browser zoom or Ctrl+0 reset?

No. Resetting zoom with Ctrl+0 made no difference. The player size is controlled by YouTube’s layout, not page zoom. If zoom were the cause, Ctrl+0 would restore defaults. Here, it did nothing. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17142004]

How do I get the larger player back?

Request removal of “flexy player mode” from your account via YouTube’s Feedback. Use this wording: “Please remove the flexy player mode from my YouTube account.” How-To: 1. On YouTube, open Help > Send feedback. 2. Paste the exact request text. 3. Submit and wait for the account change. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17388705]

What is YouTube “flexy mode”?

It’s YouTube’s dynamic player layout that auto-resizes the player based on the viewport. It began as an experiment and adjusts default player dimensions in normal view. Many users see it as the “dynamic player size” behavior. [Brinkmann, 2014]

Will clearing cookies, cache, or trying a different PC help?

No. Clearing cookies didn’t help. The same small player appeared on clean systems, various networks, and different browsers. That pattern points to an account-side setting, not local cache. Logging out or using another account restored normal size. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17115693]

Do developer-console commands to toggle dynamic size help?

They didn’t here. Running console commands from popular guides left the player small. That suggests the server enforces the account flag. Local overrides can fail when the backend assigns layout. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17142628]

Does switching to another account fix it?

Yes. Signing into a different YouTube account restored the normal player size. Logged out, it looked normal too. The affected account showed about a 20–30% smaller player in normal mode. That confirms an account-scoped change. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17115693]

Could a phone, tablet, or smart TV have set this?

Possibly. Using the same YouTube account on mobile, tablet, or TV can store layout preferences server-side. If a device triggers a test, it may follow the account. Sign out on those devices and try again. [Elektroda, E8600, post #17147311]

Is this related to theater/cinema mode or fullscreen?

No. The shrink affected the standard player only. Theater mode and fullscreen were unrelated. Toggling cinema mode did not resolve the small embedded player. The issue persisted in normal view. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17115693]

Which browsers and OS are affected?

All browsers tested showed the same result when using the affected account. Changing networks and machines didn’t help. The problem wasn’t tied to Firefox, Chrome, or Windows installs. It followed the account everywhere. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17115693]

How long might it take for Google to fix it?

In the referenced case, it took about six months. The user submitted feedback multiple times and posted on the forum. Google eventually removed the flexy mode from the account. Expect a wait and keep reporting. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17388705]

Is there a direct support line for this at Google?

No direct phone support was available for this case. Escalation wasn’t possible through phone. The viable channels were the YouTube Feedback tool and the community forum. Persistence with feedback helped. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17148572]

What can I do right now while waiting?

Use YouTube logged out or on a different account to restore the larger player immediately. Avoid relying on local zoom or console tweaks. Those didn’t work in this case. Continue submitting Feedback until the flag is removed. [Elektroda, CompFan, post #17115693]
