I noticed one of my videos on YouTube from 2014 is no sound . When I uploaded it, the sound worked flawlessly.

I turned on another YouTube video - the sound works.
I turned on Winamp - the sound works.
I sent a link to a friend to check - he says that he also has no sound, and YouTube sometimes turns off the sound in some videos.
More than 1 of my videos have no sound. Some have.
I went to the options "Movie" and "Report", but there is no option to report sound failure. You can only subtitle, but there is no option to comment on the application.

I entered my profile in the given movie in the "Sound" tab.
My voice can be heard there. There is no background music in the background, so blocking for copyright reasons is out .
I restored original recording . It did not help - I checked after waiting for the end of the movie.

I ran out of ideas, and in google I didn't find the answer to my problem.

    I searched under the phrases:
    no sound on youtube
    no sound in youtube movies
youtube turned off the sound in my video

I entered the "Help" section at YouTube and there I didn't find the answer to my problem.
    I left them a question, but I don't know if they'll reply.
If anyone knows the subject, please help.

I don't understand any of this. What is the conclusion?

I don't know how it happened, but when I checked it was on my computer Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and 29 PPAPI .
    I uninstalled 10. I reinstalled 29.
I cleared cookies and cache + application data. It didn't help on Chrome.

AdBlock Plus is disabled for YouTube.

I checked FF 59 64-bit and the voice works there.
I have missed the Chrome settings, but I have not found any place that could cause sound or YT support issues.

I will use Firefox in that case and I think that there is no more to delve into the topic.
Thanks for help gentlemen !! ;)

For me on FF it looks like this:

YouTube Sound Issue: Videos from 2014 Losing Audio - Troubleshooting Tips & Reporting Options

Unfortunately, Chrome did not find anything related to:
    applications, programs, avi or mp4

After entering "files" I found the cookie settings, but everything is fine.
I deleted the cookies and cache again.
I agreed to the YouTube privacy policy.
    I logged in to youtube.
    Nothing helped.

    Youtube notifications are blocked.
The full youtube site settings now look like this:

YouTube Sound Issue: Videos from 2014 Losing Audio - Troubleshooting Tips & Reporting Options

With sound Allow = Allow (default)

    Security settings look like this:

YouTube Sound Issue: Videos from 2014 Losing Audio - Troubleshooting Tips & Reporting Options

In Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> Sound everything was ok.
Adding youtube to the allowed ones did not help:

YouTube Sound Issue: Videos from 2014 Losing Audio - Troubleshooting Tips & Reporting Options

Everything is ok in the sound mixer (sometimes I connect headphones that are now invisible on the screen):

I have reset all Chrome settings.
    It did nothing.

Now I see that subsequent videos don't work - those that I've visited before !
When I go to the main and switch on a random video, the sound is there.

In the meantime I was looking again " how to restore sound in chrome "
    and I came here:
    http://www.coreblog.pl/jak-przywrocic-dzwiek-w-przegladarce-chrome/

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to preview and edit plugins in Chrome, because from 2017 (Chrome 57; my version is Chrome 66) this option is not available.

In step two, there is a hint to disable Flash. Did not help.
I will try to uninstall and install Chrome, but I can't believe it will help.

I don't know how flash is to HTML. I tried everything I could think of.

I turned on YT and previewed the sound mixer in the lower right corner.

All half icons, including the one from Chrome, work fine. You can even see the green bar rising and falling, but there is no sound in the loudspeakers or in the headphones connected afterwards (I changed it to "Device" for headphones).

However, the whole thing is annoying.

When using Twitter, where the video contains a video, I can't hear audio in Chrome.
On the rmf24 website, however, one youtube video played back to me, and the other one did not!
    http://www.rmf24.pl/kultura/news-metallica-za...e-hit-zespolu-dzem-posluchaj-nies,nId,2575513

and I haven't seen the other one before.
In that case, I don't know what the criterion is when the movie will work and when it won't.
I thought Chrome was sticking to those movies I've seen ...

I have the same sound on youtube, even at the zoom I couldn't participate because there was no voice. . .

Topic summary

FAQ

TL;DR: Two years after YouTube dropped Flash, "you do not need to install any codecs"—fix Chrome/Opera sound via browser settings, not codec packs. Test in another browser or device to confirm the file’s audio exists. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17172716]

Why it matters: For YouTube creators and viewers, this restores audio fast without re‑encoding or re‑uploading videos.

Quick Facts

Why do some YouTube videos have no sound in Chrome but work in other browsers?

This points to a browser‑side issue, not the video. On one PC, one of three browsers played audio while two didn’t. Symptoms match site‑level muting, output device mismatch, or Chrome profile corruption. Confirm by testing in Firefox or IE and by playing the downloaded MP4 locally. If other browsers work and the local file has audio, focus on Chrome/Opera settings and audio routing, not re‑uploading or re‑encoding. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17179228]

How do I quickly verify it isn’t the video itself?

Download the YouTube video and play it in a local player. If the MP4 has sound, the uploaded content and audio track are fine. Then compare playback across browsers on the same machine. If Chrome and Opera are silent while IE or another browser has audio, the issue is browser‑specific. This isolates the problem without changing your video or YouTube settings. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17179228]

How do I unmute YouTube in Chrome and check Windows audio routing?

Try this:
  1. In Chrome, click the padlock on youtube.com > Site settings > Sound: set to Allow.
  2. Open Windows Volume Mixer; ensure Chrome isn’t muted and uses the correct output device.
  3. Reset Chrome settings to default, then retest the same video. The thread shows site‑level Allow and a mixer signal with no audible output; resetting didn’t help there, indicating a deeper Chrome issue. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17187113]

Should I install codecs or Flash to fix YouTube audio?

No. YouTube’s player handles playback via the browser. "You do not need to install any codecs." Flash isn’t used for YouTube playback here, so Flash updates won’t restore audio. Focus on browser permissions, profiles, and your OS audio output path instead. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17172716]

Why does sound work on my phone but not my PC?

A mobile success with a desktop failure indicates a desktop/browser configuration issue. The same video played with audio on an iPhone while Chrome on the PC stayed silent. That narrows troubleshooting to the desktop browser, extensions, and Windows audio routing rather than the YouTube video or channel. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17171810]

Does Firefox play audio when Chrome doesn’t?

Yes, it can. In this case, Firefox 59 (64‑bit) played audio while Chrome and Opera didn’t. Using Firefox is a valid workaround while you diagnose Chrome. This also proves the YouTube video’s audio track exists, avoiding unnecessary re‑uploads or edits. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17183163]

Why do I see green bars in the mixer but hear nothing?

That indicates Chrome is outputting audio to the wrong device or endpoint. Windows shows signal activity, yet speakers or newly connected headphones remain silent. Verify the default playback device and per‑app device in the mixer or Windows Sound settings. Switching devices mid‑playback can also misroute audio until the app is restarted. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17195440]

I cleared cache and reset Chrome, but nothing changed—what next?

At that point, treat it as a Chrome‑specific fault. Try a clean Chrome profile or switch browsers to confirm. As one expert noted, "if it does not play in Chrome, this is its internal problem." That keeps you focused on browser fixes, not video editing. [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #17188323]

Is YouTube muting my video for copyright?

Not in this case. The creator confirmed only voice was present, and the Studio’s audio tab indicated audio existed. They also ruled out background music that could trigger muting. If you suspect a claim, check YouTube Studio for restrictions, but here copyright blocking was not the cause. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17163500]

How can I report a YouTube sound problem?

The player’s Report option lacked a “sound failure” category in this case. The user went to Help and posted a question instead. Use YouTube Help > Send feedback or community support if the in‑player report doesn’t fit your issue. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17163500]

Why are previously watched videos mute while new ones play?

This suggests a browser state or site‑data quirk. The user saw earlier‑visited videos go silent, while random new ones played. They cleared cookies, cache, and even reset Chrome without success. That points to a deeper profile or output‑routing problem rather than the video itself. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17187113]

Do embedded players on other sites behave differently from YouTube?

They can expose the same browser issue. In Chrome, one embedded YouTube video played on a news site, while another didn’t. Twitter videos also lacked audio. That inconsistency strengthens the case for a browser‑side audio or permissions problem. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17195440]

What if YouTube and Zoom both have no sound?

If multiple apps are silent, expand troubleshooting beyond the browser. Check Windows default device, per‑app audio routing, driver status, and privacy permissions. Once system audio works in Zoom, re‑test YouTube to confirm the fix applies across apps. [Elektroda, nataliaszafranska22, post #20186783]

Could an ad blocker cause YouTube to be silent?

Sometimes extensions interfere with media. In this thread, AdBlock Plus was already disabled for YouTube and didn’t affect the outcome. Still, disable all extensions for a quick A/B test. If audio returns, re‑enable extensions one by one to isolate the culprit. [Elektroda, szachinista, post #17179228]
