Hello, I bought a ZTE MF 286 router from Orange today, which was praised for the ability to manually select the LTE band. The problem is that I downloaded the latest update, I did manual and software restart, and the band selection options are still missing. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I care about this because I wanted to test different bands and aggregation and then ask here for an external antenna :)

From what I see, you can only select one band in this router. Enter the location, because it's hard to advise without it.

Try to connect to it after ssh like for example to MF823.
    root
    zte9x15
If it succeeds, theoretically there is a chance to modify the scripts.

This shows me something, I just don't know what it is supposed to help, in general I'm green in the subject and when I bought the router I was convinced that you can manually select the band and aggregate in the settings. There is an Orange card in the router.

Ask for no-wise and on what basis were you convinced about the possibility of choosing the LTE band? And the program showed a connection with LTE1800NetWorks with BTS Harcerska 30 in Piastów. Signal parameters are tragically weak. What speeds at them in the evening? Have you subscribed to Orange?

I was convinced of this because they wrote on the manufacturer's website and Orange also. I took the subscription because I tested LTE in every network and it is one and the same, everything works mediocre for me, and in Orange although I do not have such speed drops as in T-Mobile. I have two weeks to terminate the contract, because ordered by phone. In the evening the speeds are very different, it can walk 1Mb / s, and moments later 8Mb / s.
Anyway, I have the impression that these BTSs are somehow impaired near me, because it can jump like this even in hours when there is hardly any traffic.

In Play, it's exactly the same, the worst thing that I mean best Plus, which has these senseless funnels after using 100GB, which is a misunderstanding

    Added after 6 [minutes]:

In general, there is a misunderstanding. I live 10 km from the center of Warsaw, I do not have internet connection, because there are no telecommunications poles, I do not have 40Mb / 10Mb radios, because trees cover (300m from my home it is possible), and LTE is like those BTSs are 30 years old.

And what did these operator tests look like? You had the B529 with T-Mobile so you could check out the operator also Play and Plus, Orange forcing individual LTE bands and check CIDs, signal parameters and speed in each case. How did you check Play? Do you have three BTSs nearby with a set of LTE2600, LTE2100, LTE1800 and LTE800 and aggregation on each of the BTSs, several Mb / s band? You can see that you are blindly looking for the optimal operator. Have you forced the LTE2600 and LTE800 bands in Orange on the MF286?

I will test these Orange on Huawei B593, because when I bought the Orange Free starter and tested it, I was better off now than this ZTE subscription.

    Added after 57 [seconds]:

Well, the problem is that on this MF286 you can't change the bandwidth, but it was to be given and I do not know how to do it

    Added after 10 [minutes]:

I put an Orange card in this B593 and I have 5/5 DL / UP at the same time as on ZTE 0.8 / 2, I suspect that this ZTE chooses some weird BTSs and bands, because it has 3 range lines and it goes much worse than this Huawei at 1 dash

    Added after 27 [minutes]:

To make it even funnier, on this ZTE I achieve higher speeds on HSPA + than on LTE :)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the ZTE MF 286 router purchased from Orange, where the user is unable to access the expected LTE band selection options after a firmware update. Despite attempts to restart the device, the band selection remains unavailable, leading to concerns about testing different bands and aggregation capabilities. Responses indicate that the router may only allow selection of a single band, and suggestions include connecting via SSH for potential script modifications. The user expresses frustration over inconsistent internet speeds and the inability to manually select bands, which was a key feature they anticipated based on manufacturer claims. Comparisons with other routers, such as the Huawei B593, reveal better performance, suggesting that the ZTE router may be connecting to suboptimal base stations.
