Passat b5 engine ahl 1.6 - cylinder head gasket rings Ahl engine Hello, at the beginning I will emphasize that I am not a mechanic and my knowledge comes only from what I read or watched :)
I have a Pasat B5 1.6 petrol / gas engine as in the description of AHL I bought this car a year ago and everything was ok until white smoke began to appear from the pipe at the beginning everything was still to be accepted, it did not lose power, etc. until it finally started to smoke on 3 it was enough to unscrew the plugs on the 2nd cylinder from the cabin side to clean and he kept going and so every 100-200 km later it was only worse average oil consumption is about 1l per 100km cleaning the candle was not very successful because after 10 km it was covered with carbon deposits :( I started to study tips, watch movies and it was mainly written to check compressions oil test and then you will know what's going on I live in a small town where there are 2 mechanics so I went to 1 that there is no equipment 2 that there is no time for such fun and so I flew a few more in the area but either there is no time or I am busy ... job and the fact that I have no equipment, in a word, a massacre. I hardly thought, there is nothing else for me to do, because I do not have the equipment myself, so I thought that I would take off the heads and maybe I will find out something more, all the more so that just below the head, everything is covered with oil and I thought maybe it was just a gasket. So I went to work after about 2 hours, the head was already removed on my table. And now I need help because I do not know what to do with it, I have no idea where the fault of burning such an amount of oil lies, is it the fault of the leaky valve seals or maybe the rings for this I am uploading a few photos, maybe someone will tell you something and you will see something ;) For my part, what I could do with the tests, I checked the tightness of the valves using the kerosene method, it turned out that a little kerosene had drained, so I know that the valves for replacement as to the rings were first poured into four cylinders for the same amount of kerosene and checked how long it would drain, but so far it stands . I'm a bit worried about the head because I can see a lot of scratches. Do you think that replacing the valves and gaskets will help or should something else be done ??

Well, it was a mistake because now you won't check anything. When you hand over the head for repair, you still have to specify what you want them to do in addition to the valves. It will turn out that they will make you full heads and it turns out that it's down to work.

And something you man did, you got dirty for nothing. :!:

If it smells immediately after firing, especially after a few hours of inactivity, and after a while the smoke visibly decreases - valve seals.
    If while gasping - rings.

Now tell me how you start it :?: haha.

Valve seals are always given new anyway, so answer it yourself.
The amount of oil at the sockets, however, suggests sealants, if he was puking the bottom, he would have no power anymore and leave a trail like a steam engine, you can still see traces of honing on the cylinder so I would not be looking at the bottom by force.

In this engine, make a head, sealants, lapping valves- verification of valve guides. And rings to replace.

Well, with this smoke, it was different, as I needed to move faster, after lunging about 3000-4000 revolutions and starting it looked like I was actually a steam engine, everything puked around with oil :( cramps replacing the rings is a worse matter because I would have to chew the rest of the engine, because the oil pan at the bottom will not come out ... I think so, and if I had set all cylinders to the same height, I would pour about 80 ml of oil into each of them, let's sip 10w-40 and waited until he orders if it will be some wear indicator rings on this 2 cyl from the chamber ?? the rest was ok candles not flooded the color of coffee with milk

It won't do much for you.
It can be a false negative or a false positive, it depends on how the rings stand in the gaps .... full of carbon deposits.
It was necessary to do an oil test, the generated pressure excludes false results.

As you write, you can check the valve seats at most.

    Hello all
I join the founder's post. What does the robot look like?
    I have a passat b5 1.6 Ahl
    Flooded 5w30 valvoline XL III
    As recommended by the manufacturer.

The car runs well, collects great, but at the start it will pat something in the engine - apparently pushers. When you gass the car you can smell oil and light blue smoke.

I wonder whether to buy a ready-made heads (allegro 550 PLN) and I will have the problem solved ???
I want to invest and get it over with.
The car is worth it because there are no other problems, no rust, everything is in great condition, no leaks

Oil decreases by up to 700 km or a gram. After exceeding these 700 km, it begins to descend. This is . I already checked 4 times, traveled to a flat surface, counted lines on a swamp, etc.
Oil flooded on the 12th dash - 700km and we're going down
    1200 km and I have -6 lines

    I add
260ml (measured weight), so the entire bayonet is 0.5l

I want to do whatever it takes to get it flooded and be in peace with it. From exchange to exchange.

    Will you switch to 5w40?
Will the replacement of the head fix the topic
    Thank you for your answers

I would also like to add that I have stretched out sometimes there is oil in this book, but small amounts do not spit oil like the old engine could

I saw a mate called Michu
    He did the rinsing test

    He took the Astra 96r.
    Before .
She smoked on gassing and barren
    Something was knocking, etc.

    Pour the old man
New oil + rinse aid 1 hour of idle work and so 3x

On the 4th turn he poured fresh oil
And the smoke was completely settled
He did not get rid of the knocking.

    It surprised me

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues with a Volkswagen Passat B5 equipped with an AHL 1.6 engine, particularly concerning white smoke emissions and oil consumption. The original poster describes symptoms including white smoke from the exhaust, significant oil consumption (approximately 1 liter per 100 km), and carbon deposits on spark plugs. Responses suggest potential causes such as valve seals and piston rings, with recommendations for engine diagnostics including compression tests and oil tests. Some participants advise on the necessity of replacing the cylinder head gasket, lapping valves, and verifying valve guides. One user considers purchasing a ready-made cylinder head to resolve the issues, citing the car's overall good condition despite the engine problems.
