Can some one explain to me the difference in -5 and +5 also the -12 and +12 as used in computer power supplies. What is the logic behind this difference?

Joe,

The -5V and -12V rails on a PC power supply are really not used anymore. In fact, the -5V rail is removed in the latest ATX standard.
