Converting Speakers to powered speakers.

I am having two speakers for my tape recorder.
Tape recorder player not working but the speaker are good.*
I want to convert the speakers for my computer.*
*That means powered* speakers with USB.
*Can anybody suggest a cheap conversion of these speakers?*
with detailed circuit and connection procedures.

I don't quite understand ... You want to transform them into active speakers (with amplifier) and the audio signal to be transported via USB. This is complicated, because you need a sound card integrated into the speakers. It's more simple to have a sound card in the computer and in the speakers just an amplifier.

What power and impedance have the speakers ?

First check the impedance and output rating of the speakers If this is in the region of 20 watts or more Use a TD2004 or TDA1518 You want an op amp as an input acting as a buffer (unity gain) the output of which is fed to a TDA 2004 or similar device If the power rating is only milli watts then construct a suitable power amp stage using maybe something like a LM386 with op amp buffer stage so that you can match impedance easily from the output of your pc card

Correct, interface to USB has to be reconized by the PC & hopefully the PC has a driver for it. There are chips that do USB -> audio, but low level so a power chip must be used as well as a power supply of X times the audio depending on the class, A, B, C, E, etc. For instance with class A, say 10W, you should have a power supply that has 30W per channel, this is average or in practice it's usually 1/2 that because you don't drive them constantly at max load and low frequency.

I have is a set of small inexpensive, almost free powered speakers (old) with a 1/8" mini phono jack. I bought a USB audio device that has inputs for both mic & speakers both 1/8" mini phono jacks. Works fine. Though I bought the USB audio dongle for my VOIP headset it's still fine with the speakers. No soldering required.

That’s a very good answer I should have thought audio streaming from usb that would be in compliance to up to date technology Me being old fashioned I naturally assumed audio output from sound card being analogue in nature and then assumed he must mean he wants to take his speakers out of the radio / tape and re use them

I always think hell I cant throw this away Its cost someone money In India and the rest of the world without DHSS and social security I would have salvaged every component that I could possibly re use and make another new Item That was my thinking what was yours I wonder

Perhaps something to think on Can we really afford to throw this much away given that we are trying to protect the green environment One in which our weather is rapidly changing How many jobs has this cost ? How many lives has this destroyed and then I ask , “ Are we that silly with money, so wasteful “ that we can turn our backs on those who simply cant afford to learn new technology

Makes you think at -14 degrees C in the snow living rough doesn’t it , when your on the street striving to make a living just to survive

What I ask happens to all those in Britain who because of government policies and attitude towards education are now in poverty

Why I ask are there so many who don’t have a trade

Don’t have any skills Don’t have any education , and then I ask

How has this happened to a country that was once so great ?

Why I ask are they so anti education from foreign sources yet they Are crying out for jobs and training when in fact it is only there governments that have let them down

I hope that you too will think on this at -14 degrees C whilst old age pensioners are dying ,people who should have been housed and looked after by a system within Britain have also been failed and why it is that a housing association can evict 60 year olds and 70 years olds knowing full well that they are in this position because our governments failed to recognize the need for education and training , failed to recognize that they cant read or write What then I ask happens to all those who are deaf , cant speak , blind whilst they shut library after library after library

What happens to the writers who have spent many years creating those books for our future Do we just simply copy all their hard work and place this on the net?

Don’t you think this might just make education meaning less ??

Maybe for some it might be an advantage but somehow I also think automatic spell checker not knowing how to transform formula , might be good thing !! Maybe , maybe not

What happens when the power is switched off What then ??

What happens to those who have only learnt how to use a cad program to achieve technical drawing , complex electronic design , writes tyhe code for you without so much as a human understanding of what the code does in block format

How do we know what’s going on inside a software program inside a cpu ??

My answer is we don’t To me that’s not good at all

That means total destruction and annihilation of the human race dictated by those who can only think in terms of 1 and zero


Thank god for analogue , thank god for math teachers , thank god some of us still know how to achieve this without a pc for without that knowledge you wouldn’t be able to program a pc to do this for you , neither would you be able to produce heat power , on the job quick dirty designs using pen and paper, maybe even make a circuit bourd for a life saving apparatus in real emergency situations

What if you cant and tomorrow they decide to drop the next nucleur bomb

Who will defend you then ?

Math’s is a very important part of engineering you have to have math’s to be able to design other wise you cant trust a computer your brain is still far more extensive than a pc will ever be Hence why I have survived for the last 4 months thanks to friends who have taught me how to become invisible on a system dilated by a computer


Should I have smacked my daughter for not attending school or becuaes she might be out late one night on her own and then possibly not see her ever return

Was it wrong of me to insist that that my step son attend classes and that it was wromg for hime not to attend school Perhaps Im wrong ther too Maybe I should have let him not attend school as many parents do because the government inb the Uk says Its Ok to leave school at an early age


What would you say then ?

Some people say you’re too clever for your own good I say you can never be clever enough no matter how much you learn there will always be something you dont know
