transient response of capacitor and ac circuit

Hi everybody

Does transient response of a capacitor only apply to DC circuit or does it also apply to AC circuits?

For example

AC power source------ RC circuits

In above scenario, there is no steady state for ac voltage ; it keeps changing with time. In such case how can one determine the transient response of a capacitor?

the transient response of a circuit is found when impulse or step input is given to the circuit.
These responses show the characteristics of the circuit i.e stable or unstable.
Providing AC power means you are providing continuous steps or impulses which results in continuous series of responses one after the other.

Is the above true for both ac and dc circuits ?
For example my book shows a dc circuit as:

Dc power source----Rc.
My book shows when the switch closes, dc current starts flowing and capacitor begins to charge. After 5 times RC, its reaches its steady state. Here we did not subject the circuit to impulse or step inputs to find transient response of the circuit.
I will really appreciate if you could elaborate on that.
