I recently had to pick a topic for my thesis and I found it near impossible trying to pick something sufficiently interesting, yet difficult enough to present to the thesis board.
Firstly, you need to give us more information on what you're interested in? What level is this project diploma / degree / bachelors / masters / phd? This will help you narrow down what you want to do.
I'd recommend reading as much as you can on the EEWeb website on current electronics, problems and issues that have arised from new and current designs. Another great resource is the IEEE Spectrum magazine, if you know anyone who subscribes to it, I've found it to be full of interesting topics. Even try EnGadget's website for news on technology.
It really depends on what areas you're interested in to be honest. Say for example you are interested in DRAM, I read an interesting article on soft errors in modern computers and it's increasing effect on the reliability of systems and the future concerns for the manufacture of these DRAM chips as they get smaller and smaller.
